If the CD unit is removable, remove it and reseat it. It sounds like either a bad connection or the drive might be Kaput.

The unit is about 4 years old (I think).

The drivers to use are found at:

http://www.sagernotebook.com/pages/tech_sfwrdls.html#2

Highlight the 6650 model and it will expand - then select "GO" for the "Miscellanies/Utilities" file.

What operating system are you using? Are you trying to use a CD-R or CD-RW Disc rather than an original CD-ROM. Does it still "not work" with a CD-ROM? If it works with a CD-ROM and not with a CD-R, then simply reboot the machine a couple of times with the CD-R in the CD Tray. I need to do that at times with my Model 3363 running under wither WIN 2K-PRO and WIN XP-PRO.

I Downloaded The Drivers From The Sager Site And They Loaded Fine. But, At The Boot Up, It Just Makes The Cd Door Pop Open. I Still Get The Same Error Message "cdr101: Not Ready Reading Drive D". Im Trying To Install Win98se But I Cant Get Past The Dos Prompt.

If the system is 4 years old, the drive might just have died of natural causes. I think notebook CD drives are usually one of the first components to go.

Hmmmm. Been a long time since I worked on WIN98. Here comes a buch of STUPID questions.......

1). How many CD drives do you have on the machine?
2). Are you using the original WIN-98 "Boot/Install/Startup" diskette? Make sure that this diskette matches the version of WN-98 that is on the CD-ROM.
3). How many HDDs do you have on the system.
4). Did you try Drive E: as the CD drive -vs- Drive D: I remember this being a "quirky thing".
5). Is the WIN98 OS CD-ROM actually in the drive?
6). Try cleaning the win98 CD-ROM - ESPECIALLY IF YOU SMOKE (I DO) and haven't used the disk in a long time. Remember wipe from center to outside and not circular!!!! Make sure it is dry before using!!!
7). Might try "very very very gently cleaning the 'eye' of the CD 'head'".
8). Is your CD Drive an ATAPI one? Might have mispelled this.

If you have 1 CD and 1 HDD, I'd try #4 after #5, 6, and 7 (see above).

It "kind of" looks like the WIN-98 drivers don't like you CD-ROM for one reason or another.

Please let me know what happens.
