Old Timer CPQ 12XL430

Some "expert" loaded Windows XP Home on this notebook and of course it has slowed to a crawl.
Additional memory would seem to help but,
the Specs say max memory is 384 (with 4 going to video) which is what we currently have.
Are the Specs rigid or can we try a 512mb PC100 chip?

I dont think It will take any more than 384 if thats what the specs say. Might try a bios update though

It would be better off running windows 2k than xp. Its a little less demanding
