Should I have waited???

Hello,

I just got a 5680 on 2/6/04 3Ghz, 1gb RAM etc etc... and so far I simply love it. Only thing I am wondering.... should I have waited for the next models? I was unaware that there was a new Radeon 9700 M11 chip on the horizon. I have 30 days money back from where I bought it. I just figure since I have a $3000 budget for a laptop should I upgrade or keep what I bought???

Opinions?
Thanks,
Rob

As of right now, I don't think there is a need for upgrading at this moment.
All teh reviews from the M11 (Radeon 9700) have been good, but not "earth shattering"

It's of course your decision.

Thanks for the feedback. I was just thinking in the sense of when you buy a laptop you generally want to get the most you can afford and since I JUST got this one I better make up my mind quick if there is a better option! I'll check em out, Thanks.

Unfortunately, there is ALWAYS something new "around the corner". If you want the M11, you are probably talking about a 8790 and that should be in your budget; however has a different screen resolution (17" WXGA @ 1440/900). And you will probably have to wait another month or so to get one. There is another thread that contains a SAGER ad that shows a 8790C for $2495. It has the M11 plus a 3.0GB Processor and 512MB Memory plus a bunch of other "goodies".

Remember, Only You Can Make The Decision. If I were you, I would have waited (but I can as I'm not on a tight timetable). I was going to buy the 8890; however, when the configuration changed so that the 16" SGVA LCD was no longer available, I decided to wait and see what the "next best thing" would be announced.

Have fun with making a decision YES NO YES NO

Nah its not gonna be worth it. Besides - if you got a flawless UXGA LCD then stick with it. I am thinking about this because I dont like how my games look on 17"

If they bring out the M-11 in the 56XX series then guess where my money is goin

17" widescreen=eeewww....

I am waiting for an upgrade for the 5680, and more reviews on the M11.

I will admit the 17" screen is nice if the game supports wide screen resolutions. If it doesn't and hte game has to stretch.. (like DAoC) it looks awful! But for me, I can live with it since I don't to much gaming, and my main purpose is photoshop/dreamweaver ... (which the wide screen is invaluable!)

Were you able to fix this issue at all in daoc's config files? My 4780 should be in my hands this week and one game I was considering getting back into was DAOC since I'll have my machine at work and a lot of free time to play.

I hope WoW and some of the other future MMORPG's have widescreen support.

Thank You SOOOO much for making me feel more cozy about this purchase. First laptop, so I was double checking. Looks like I'm fine. When I was shopping at the Best Buy's, Circuit City's etc I almost fell for one of those 17" HP's with the Geforce to Go 5200 and I am so happy I didn't buy it and instead looked online.

But then I got to thinking after I saw the oddball resolutions the 17" had and wondered "What is this screen going to be like for gaming?" So I went with the UXGA.

GsFerrari.....Yes, it seems flawless! UXGA (not a dead pixel I can see anyhow)

Guess I'll stick with it since what I've read the M11 won't make that big a difference + why take the chance of getting defective equipment when I just got a system that works 100%.

Thanks.

Known computer fact: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
