Finally modded and painted my 600m | pics inside

well i finally did what ive always wanted to do, from way back in the days when i had a 5100... but i sold that piece of junk for $850

i pretty much followed Spiike's tutorial but i actually had my car auto painter to do the job for me since he has an airbrush machine (u know spraying using compressed air) which they paint cars with.

ive also embedded a bluetooth dongle inside of the 600m, since the bluetooth truemobile never worked on the model of the 600m because of the motherboard and the bad connectors. i actually didnt take any pics of the process because i was too busy putting my mind into the mounting area in the laptop (which happens to be the LCD casing ) ive found a perfect place for the BT chip, which is behind the LCD where the LCD could sit on the chip and hold it tight, plus the chip is in a high place where it could get some range.... but sorry no pics and i am NOT up to disassembling the LCD case again lol....

anyway i actually soldered wires from the card, and then layed them out down to wheres the hinges are, i took a drilling gun and i drilled a little whole for the wires to come out (see the hole where the LCD connecter goes from the motherboard to the LCD?) well thats the same hole i made but on the other hinge....

so, when it came to connecting the wires to the back of the USB connectors, i managed to get the metal cover off exposing the 4 pins (shown below)

so, i connected the wires one by one by twisting the wires around (u know the method) but the gap between the pins is soooooo small that the wires started touching eachother and windows gave the "USB has power surge" message, otherwise, i actually tried to keep the wires from touching eachother just for a couple of minutes to see if the dongle is working, and yes indeed it worked and i sent/received files using my nokia cellphone.

i disconnected everything from the USB connector and i just layed the wires out till i can find someone expereinced enough to solder, beacause im defently not a pro. i mean i can solder 2 wires together prefectly but thats about it, but when it comes to close detailed soldering on a motherboard im afraid ill drop a drop of rosin on the USB or MOBO and mess things up...

alright so enough talking, now lets get down to the pics, i chose the color "Imperial Orange" of the Nissan 2005 color catalogue, and the Mitsubishi 2005 "Cool Silver" for the blue trims and mouse buttons. here goes:

2005 Color catalogue:

Palmrest sanded down:

LCD cover being sanded down by my lovely car paint pro:

Rest of parts sanded down (except for blue trims, they dont need to):

Got myself 200g's of "Metalic Imperial Orange":

Ahhhh it shines in the sun!!!!!

First, we started with the parts that needed to be painted silver, and here is the first coat of silver:

Painting the trim piece, notice that i defently wanted it to be 2 colors, my painter was suggesting for me to paint it all silver but i was like dude the hinges part will be silver and wont blend in with the LCD bezel color and it wont look nice at all....

Now about this Dell badge... its the cheapest sh!t ive ever seen in my life, when i was trying to take it off i didnt know it was SO fragile that it bent and stuff.... so i fixed it as far as possible.... but it still looks gay. when i come back to cali im going to see Heath maybe he can make me a custom one.

i also painted the badge since it was kinda scratched and i needed a unified color for the whole laptop.

back to the buttons and touchpad trim, heres the first coat of gloss after 3 coats of metalic silver um um i mean "Cool Silver":

mean while...............

back at the crib:

in the process of disassembly, i had layed out every part on the bed and put the screws related to the part beside to part... just so i dont get confused putting 1000 screws back together

Bluetooth chip:

erm erm, my 80GB 4200rpm fujitsu HD

i took the touchpad assembly out of the palmrest, and i dont know i just got this idea to clean the touchpad with aceton, when the matte finish started peeling.... so i started rubbing more and more and i noticed theres a very smooth and glossy layer under the matte finish, so i scrubbed the matt finish off completely untill i had a very shiny smooth surface... but i was doubting if will still work. Untill i plugged it in (youll see below) and it actually worked smoother than before!!!!!!!! it became much more sensitive too.

here i was soooo bored and i need to access a file on the HD so im like heck, let me practice assembling that b!atch again, so i assemble everything back and i mount the screen, and voila, bootin up at a cool temperature of 31c (since everything is exposed)

alright enough scattered parts........

and nowwwwwwwwwwwwwww *Drums Rolllliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing*

Presto-change-o!!

Surface was a bit sumdgy and im too lazy to wipe it, metalic finish is amazing.

sideshot *couldnt paint CD drive*

whats nicer than a Heineken after getting a laptop modded???

anotha

i hope this pic brings out the true color of the imperial orange, because pics do not do justice on the beauty of this finish:

the silver is so nice too

these wires are temporarily out untill i find someone to solder them to the USB pins, PLEASE people tell me guide me how to get those connected with ease.

as a whole

finally on my desk, bootin up that windawz

thanks bro. well it didnt take much time really, disassembling is maximum a couple of hours (your mileage may vary though) and painting at my auto painting shop was like a couple of days, and re assembling + installing, soldering and drilling for the bluetooth chip was like a couple of hours.... so like in 3 days youd have it ready. but keep in mind that you REALLY have to read and research how to assemble/disassemble the laptop. i was VERY careful about screws and their place and i was reviewing the documentation for the 600m assembly on my desktop while assembling the laptop. but EVEN though, i ended up with 1 extra screw to spare!!! where the hell does that screw go!!! but whatever ill keep it as an extra im pretty sure it wont matter. i was careful enough.

That's one hell of a paint job, and with auto paint it shouldn't be going anywhere either. Very nice job, congrats (oh and the only thing better than a heineken after a mod is 6 of them)

ya commish, the thing is that im a LEO and leo is a fire sign, and i REALLY REALLY get irritated from colors such as white/gray/blue/yellow etc so i NEED to look at something with a hot color like RED or ORANGE so thats why i decided the project

First, nice painting job. I always wanted to paint mine but I'm a novice at painting anything.

I suggest you solder the wires to the usb pins exposed at the bottom of the motherboard - this is the way I did it in my usb port mod: No rosin will be necessary to hold the connection together.

That's one of the best paint jobs i've seen! Wish I can find someone to paint my 700m with a paint job like that, but in black
