Has anyone used this drive? I just bought a couple of them for my RAID 0 setup and would appreciate any feedback. From reading the few reviews I have found they seem to be on par with Raptors in a few areas.

Thanks. They are cheapest at ZipZoomFly and with Fedex 2 day they will be here tomorrow. I will post results from HDTach and a few other programs to let you guys know how they perform. Sound good?

it does. I've never benchmarked any of my hd's. I should run the same tests on my raid 0 just to see how they stack up.

OfficeMax is having a huge sale on WD HD's (up to 50% off)
here's some examples:
250 GB- $74.99
160 GB internal- $84.99
320 GB- $99.99
and 160 GB- $59.99
I looked on their web site and they don't seem to carry the 400 Gb though..
BTW, these are all actual prices, no rebates involved and no I don't work for OfficeMax, I just happened to see the ad in the paper yesterday and was wishing I had a few extra $100's to blow..

Probably 5400 RPM drives no less. J/K. Good find but not much cheaper than Newegg or ZipZoomFly.

Well I just got both of my 400 GB RE2 drives today. I ran them for a while to hear the noise and feel how much heat they generate. My initial reaction after running them for 4 hours is that they are extremely quiet and you don't hear that windup high pitched noise anymore. They must use a gentler startup speed and ramp up slowly. I can't hear any head noise such as clicking. Heat generation is on par with my old 100GB Caviar drives. I would say around 120F.

Western Digital 400GB RE2 drives and my eMachines M6805

Your looking at $350 in drives from ZipZoomFly.

Installed and running in top two trays. The good news is the only thing I hear is the CPU and video card fans spinning! The bottom tray is my old 30GB drive from 2001. lol. It is a sole survivor of the days when comparable sized IBM drives were known as "DeathStars" and had the click of death issue. It suffices as a usefull storage device between my three desktops. Someone remind me to pick up an external USB or firewire case and get into 2006 trends. The reason I stick with this is because transfers are faster. Oh well...to each his own.

The reviews say that Windows XP load time is significantly faster with the RE2's in RAID 0 than with the Caviar SE drives in RAID 0. Thanks in part to the four-100GB platters. The total combined space with these drives will be around 760GB. RAID 0 performance testing should be impressive. Let's find out. More to come.

They have no info on RAID 0 performance but I did read their single drive review of the 400GB RE2. That is why I will be doing this review.

RAID 5 is slow. RAID 0+1 would be faster.

Oh it's out. Here are my results compared to two Raptor in RAID 0. All I can say is that the 400GB RE2's are AWESOME!! Best purchased I ever made for a middle of the road PC. Just remember to back up. I have a Firewire enclosure on the way as well.
