hey just floating this stoner idea by you guys...ever see how a lot of 3d card laptops (first & second gen XPS laptops comes to mind) are kind of poorly heat managed they have big stands to keep them suspended above surfaces which is completed negated if its on your LAP they feel somewhat cheap and bulky and are easy to cover the heat vents. Newer 3d cards have gone around this by underclocking, downgrading and disabling pipelines and features to lower heat.
I look at the back of the Asus and i think what if their were some type of snap on chunky copper small fan block that attached to the back of the heatsink on the laptop. It would snap into the usb port and i'd invision a few copper shims coming out that make solid good contact with the internal 3d card maybe like an NES system where theirs a dor and it plugs in with as much forced copper contact as possible maybe a thermal pad that is kept tucked away with some type of snap in pressure being placed to keep the copper together tight. a block would come outthe back of the laptop and mount with hopefully a smaller fan and copper block.
A laptop would have to be prebuilt with this in mind i think but i think its a good idea when you want to get your game on or youre at home and dont need to take your laptop out (it can still be carried around the house the block will be small and usb powered) when the block plugs in say it bumps up a core and memory 3d card mhz and maybe enables pipelines or whatever it does, stuff that isnt needed during most computer use.
Stupid? maybe for Alienware laptops? give that extra oomph to beat out the other guys with the same card?
