Software Development (.NET) - Latitude or Precision?

It's between a Latitude D820 or an equivalently-spec'd Precision. Honestly, the only difference I can see is a better video card and several hundred dollars. Is there something I am missing? What makes the Precision so much more expensive than an equivalent Latitude?

And no, just forget about an Inspiron

The significantly better video card. I don't know much about the Latitude's build quality, but the precision's is fairly top-notch.

Until the M90 I believe all the Precisions where based on the equivelent Latitude (M90 is based on the new XPS or vice versa depending who you talk to). Casing is the same only difference is the internals. I beleive mostly jsut the video card. If your not doing 3d graphics work the Latitude will probably be the better buy.

The NVS120M and quadro FX350M are the same thing {geforce 7400}the only difference is the GPU I.D. which enables different optimisations from the drivers.

I asked Dell why the 350 was 600.00 {in NZ}more expensive than the NVS120 considering they are the same hardware and the answer was the cost of certifcation and specialised driver sets or extensions for DCC and MCAD software.

Also, the M65 has a flasher lcd cover with DELL PRECISION on it,that must be worth a couple of hundred eh eh.

I would think for what you are doing, the precision would offer nothing over the latitude.

I've done .NET work on my I8600 (same as the D800) for nearly two years now. Video card makes little impact on this; max the CPU, RAM, and HD speed (7200 is a must). This is actually my primary reason for an upgrade, as my current machine is just getting too slow with all the applications I run. Duo core should make a substantial performance improvement for me.

Widescreen helps a lot to show all the VS windows and panels. This is the only place where I see graphics acceleration helping; the effects in VS to show and hide panels are more fluid on an accelerated graphics chip. But if you have a screen where you see everything, its not as important. However, I game on this machine as well so it is important to me
