External Hard Drives for Laptops

Thread Starter
Ok.. I'm asking for the impossible here.. but i will still ask..

I need a small, light, external hard drive with a capacity of at least 200/250 Gigs that runs preferably without a power cord..

LaCie's Little Big Disk is exactly that but it costs 700 bux..

any other choices??

And these drives run without a power adapter? What do you do, plug USB cables into all your USB ports to power them? Or do you have a full sized Fire Wire port on your computer?

Never looked at them but they don't, unless they are 2.5" HDDs or smaller. Since there is no 200gb 2.5", I would say no for sure.

I think most of the externals use power adapters

I looked at the LaCie page, and it says it can be powered by Fire Wire. It also said it comes preformatted for the Mac. I then saw the prices and thought 'This drive is for a MAC!'. Seriously though, I don't think I'd like the kind of power required by an external 3.5" drive flowing through my laptop's ports. And AFAIK, there are no laptops (ok, maybe a Mac or two) with powered Fire Wire, let alone full spec powered Fire Wire.
