I need to boot hard drive from my Asus - wont work in Dell...use desktop?

I have an Asus that is dead and will be sent into Asus for repairs. However, I desperately need to boot the HD that is currently in it. I tried to boot it up with a Dell notebook that I have, but the Dell is giving me a boot error as if the HD is not recognizable. Is this normal?

Will it work to get one of them 2.5" to 3.5" HD adapters for my desktop and simply boot it up with my desktop? I mostly need to access the outlook information/email on it.

Simply put, I can not wait until I get the notebook back from repair before I get some information of this HD.

Thanks in advance

Yes get a 2.5" to 3.5" adaptor.

Don't BOOT from it though, just use it as a slave drive and boot normal OS on the desktop.

Any reason on why to not actually boot from it? Other than some hardware that might not be immediately recognized?

I think the OS will only run on an Asus. Why would you boot of it anyways? You just need to get some files off. Much easier running it as a slave.

yeah, you will not be able too boot from the drive unless you find another ASUS with the same chipset.

with that said, set the drive up as a slave.
