Loud fan noises on 5720

Hi, I recently purchased a 5720 (about 2 months ago) and I'm running into some new noises.

At first, I was pretty impressed that this powerful laptop was quieter than my 3790 i bought over a year ago. But recently the fan that's always running is starting to sound like a hair dryer.

Now ordinarily I would look inside to see what's up, but in this case of a 2 year warranty, I'd rather not void it.

So my question is, is this "hair dryer" fan noise a common occurance on the 5720, or should I look at sending it back to get it checked out?

It can get pretty loud but it's subjective I think. Mine never goes to full speed by itself but you can force it to run at full speed by cycling the Fn-F2 key combination. If you're is automatically running at full speed there may be a problem.

Yeah, something weird is going on though. I used to see CPU temp and charge/discharge rate on mobilemeter, now I don't. And when not used, the HDD temp used to stay pretty low. Now it sits at 52C and I'm not even really using the HDD. (no gaming, no applications other than internet.)

Another possiblity is that your heat sink has become detached or partially from the cpu! I have seen that before too. Maybe there was a bad application of thermal compound. That would explain the cpu reporting the high temps and your mobo trying to compensate by running the fan at max. Good luck!
