My laptop cannot deteremine the adapter type (weird problem)

hi guys...
I have encountered a weird problem. I've been using the same adapter eversince I purchased my laptop, but for the past week, I've been getting an error at the start up that the AC Adapter type cannot be determined. This causes my laptop not to be recharged. But at the same time the adpater works and while it's connected, my laptop doesn't use its battery.

What do you guys think the problem is?
and how can I fix it?

thanks guys

The Dell AC adaptors have a pin in the center of the round barrel style connector (the end that plugs into the computer), this pin is how the computer talks to the AC adaptor so it knows you are attaching the proper AC adaptor. If this pin gets bent or broken this could cause the issue you have described.

i got this message a few times. the Adapter wasnt plugged in all the way.

make sure the light is lit on the adapter, and that it is in fact the correct adapter for the system too!

if you get that all the time, call tech, it needs to be replaced.

hmm...
something more weird happened.

At home, the light on the adapter IS ON but it doesn't work.

However, the other day I took my laptop and the adapter to work and IT worked there.

any idea?!?!?!

Call tech, go through 2 minutes of troubleshooting, they'll determine either the adapter or motherboard need replacing.
