Sorry for the complicated post, I just want to give enough background information.
I recently have been trying to fix/upgrade my old broken presario. There where two main problems with it.
A. The hard drive died on me (i threw it away years ago)
B. The combo DVD/CDRW drive rarely works
It originally came with a 40gig hard drive (i dont know what manufacturer) and inorder to install a new 30gig hard drive from hitachi (DK23DA) i had to use a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter to connect it to my desktop computer.
The hard drive works fine when i tried to install XP pro as well as Media center however when i try to connect the hitachi hard drive up to my presario it hangs after the compaq logo, and after trying to start up in safe mode it hangs on mup.sys. After trying to disable mup.sys in windows repair console the next driver hangs (ndis.sys).
Ive tried calling up hp/compaq support and the best they can tell me is that the hard drive is incompatible and try to sell me a new hard drive. I know it is a good hard drive and is picked up by the laptops bios.
I have even gone as far as trying to use the QuickRestore System recovery cd but the restore fails after copying all four cds over and rebooting giving me a generic "call technical support" error and telling me to "hit enter to shut system down"
I am at a loss as to what to try next.
