Nike+iPod, What are your thoughts?

I think it is a pretty cool idea, yet unsure of the price. Was wondering what others thought?

Hunt around for the fine print on the non-replaceable battery in the foot pod. The way it sounds, you'd have to shell out $29 every time the battery dies. No thanks. Cool that it's tied to the Nano and also not cool. One more thing that'll be planned obsolescence.

I use a Suunto t6 with heart rate, bike pod and foot pod. Mean system, but the price isn't for the faint of heart.

I wonder if this means that Apple will be branching out into child labor just like Nike?

I think it's more proof that Apple is turning into a Sony type company. They are moving awaty from computers and towards mainstream electronics.

As for the device itself? It will go the way of the ROKR. This is a dead end.

Yes, nevermind the fact that Apple is making a HUGE transition from PPC to Intel processors in it's computer line, or the fact that Apple is continuously updating Mac OS.

Noooo, Apple is surely going to move away from computers and just start selling cameras and clock radios!

I don't think they will abandon computers. I'm saying they will not be their main concern. In fact, you could argue that they already aren't. Without iPod, specifically iPod+Windows, Apple would not be anywhere near where they are today. I love Apple, but facts are facts they are quickly becoming an electronics company just like sony(they make computers too!)

yeah, but sony computers suck. Hopefully they don't stray too much away from computers. I mean, that is what they build their base of the company on, Apple Computers.

It's a common misperception that the iPod saved Apple but it didn't. Even back when Apple was floundering it had billions of dollars put away in reserve and even before the iPod the iMac was doing a great job of bringing the company marketshare and notoriety.

What the iPod has done, however, is take the Apple brand and turn it into a household name again. iPods are the cheapest, most desired piece of Applecana that a person can buy and have done wonders as far as getting the Apple brand out to the people who would never have heard of Macintosh before.

neat/interesting idea, but i'd rather they hook the shoes up to a GPS locator instead of using the whole pedometer method. in any case, the attachment is an odd yet currently needed facet. assuming the next gen ipod will have wifi or bluetooth, there could be a much more feasible (attachment-free) solution down the line.

here is my understanding of apple saved by ipod deal.

the computers were going nowhere...pretty much. they kept the company afloat, but nothing the accountants or investors would be excited about. then came the ipod, which did not gain popularity till its 3rd generation. what the ipod did is make the name APPLE a household brand, and as such, they'd hope people would start buying apple computers to make the "integration" easier. then came the itunes music store which is yet to make apple any real money, its simply a promotional tool to sell ipods, which are a promotional tool to sell computers. next thing you know apple will be selling sound equipment to make the music to put up on itunes....
