Game Over...

OK people...

I just wanted you all to know that I have had a great time on the forum among such wonderful peeps...

I think the time has come to lie low a little and maybe lurk around to see what comes around but I will not be as active as I have been the past few months...

I am still available for being the "lab rat" in case you guys want any specific drivers to be tested on the 5660. So please email me or pm me with your questions and 5660 related tech problems...

I'll hop on board again when the next gen sager is announced. Dont want to talk about it till then

Have fun and keep the spirit....

Thank you and Welcome lol

Is this because of all the new threads you hate so much ;P?

I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I'll *hopefully* be buying the next huge sager release before college starts. And, seeing the lack of updates, I'll probably spend more of my time elsewhere.

Be ready for some mad reviews from me once I do finally get one though ;D

Peace

Wow, forum-burn-out!

We will be sure to start all kinds of rumors and inuendos behind your back in typical 'net tradition!

Don't be afraid to chime in when there is actually a "new" problem and not a repeat of an old problem that's been gone over 10 times.

Well - I'm back (sort of), after a disappearance of more than 2 months.

In my case, it wasn't a matter of forum burnout (I can digest huge amounts of text pretty quickly). Rather, it does get somewhat painful paying a lot of money for a brand new 5660 machine, only to find something better just released a week later. Normally, that sort of thing wouldn't bother me as much - except that in that one instance, it was a widescreen LCD for the 5660; and when the screen's essentially the most significant - and visual - component you have on the notebook, it was more than mildly distressing.

Still, now that I've had the 5660 for 3 months now, I'm still pretty pleased with it. No defects on the screen (yet), and the machine still feels pretty rock solid as it was on the first day of purchase.

Interestingly though, just yesterday, I had to reformat/reinstall everything back on I accidentally tinkered with something I shouldn't; and using the XP Home OS disc supplied by Sager/Midterm (?), all devices on the 5660 - with the sole exception of the modem - were detected and drivers automatically installed by the OS.

GS ferrari isn't going anywhere, except maybe to a Sager Laptop's Anonymous meeting.

who knows...

That would be an awesome thing if it materializes

Imagine - I could test most new laptops that leave the sager doors and post it on the forums....

Like an in house tester

I'll get better at this the more I do reviews and benchmarks and stuff...the 5670 review was ok but there were flaws in the method - will take the suggestions and work on the next review in a more systematic way...

Is there a patch to play BF1942 online? I cannot get on a server. How do you do it?

Well I have a question for those that own the 5670-V with HT and 3.06 Ghz......does your 5670-V ever crash or overheat?

I have the 2.8Ghz 5670-S and it always crashes after completing a level of BF 1942 in single player campagin.

Well I think I need a 5670 3.06Ghz.....I should have waited for the price drop.

Huh?? no way!!!

Your CPU has nothing to do with your game crashing - set that straight - I have the 2.8Ghz as well and the game runs just beautifully...

Your system is the same as my 5660 save for the 128M Radeon 9000...

Some things you could try are -

1] Reinstalling OS and the stock drivers in the proper sequence. If your OS came with SP1 then forget about the upgrades for the moment.

2] Before you install the drivers and after installing the OS - create a disk image (ghost your HDD).

3] Do the Full NTFS format and not the quick one - takes time but once you've done this you dont have to do it again in the near future...

4] Install drivers from the driver CD and then create another disk image (just to reduce your workload later if things go wrong)

5] Check if everything works normally...

NOTE : I usually install only the Chipset, Audio, Video and Lan drivers because USB2.0 is standard in Windows XP with SP1. Dont install the other drivers now...

6] Install BF1942
7] Install the Patch ver1.31

8] Now try and see if everything works...

You dont need to install GameSPY for online gaming
You have to click the multiplayer tab and then click the internet option
You have to select your filters (Usually No-password and then below select your internet speed)
Then click Update tab
Click the Ping tab (one of the columns in the server listing) to see which servers have the lowest pings
Select a game with a decent number of players ( at least more than 10)
Join...

Lemme know how it goes...

Best of luck...

Just today I re-formatted/re-installed XP do rid myself of DirectX 9... now I have to go get all my CD's to re-install everything (well, there's not much, but man I hate DirectX for this).

-myrkat

PS: Using cat 3.2 from s-seven and dx9.0a, I started getting white/blank "shards" (faces) in BF1942. Annoying as all hell.

Wouldn't have changed my drivers if not for trying to get FreeLancer to NOT crash. Oh well (it still did). Back to 8.1+sager drivers (april vers.)

Consistent results...

I think those blank white, transparent faced we all get results from some error in DX9.0 and DX9.0a. I never had that problem with DX8.1 and I didnt have the problem as much with the Cat3.2 drivers...

Best bet is DX8.1 but since his OS CD is preloaded with DX9.0a the only thing to do is use the default drivers that come with the driver cd. These also give the same effects in BF1942 but not as much as the s-seven.net drivers...

Actually, my OS CD is XP Pro w/ SP1 - and Dx8.1, so I'm ok there.

Definately will be staying away from Dx9 for some time.

well, gsferrari

I re-installed XP via the recovery CD like you told me. Installed all the drivers, and then I ran 3dmark2001se. And I got 7146 marks. blech. I ran powerstrip, and my memory is at 190, and the engine at 250. the driver date for the M9 on my computer is 11/07/02.

Another option...

Most of my scores were derived with the Cat3.2 drivers - why dont you try them out...

But I wouldnt pay too much attention to your benchmark scores kubed - just see if your games are playing well - and 7146 IS NOT a bad score...

Try the Cat 3.2 and DX9.0 and then lemme know what your score is. Dont look at the drivers date - look at the version number in the dxdiag.exe results...

I updated my ati driver. I'm using dx 8.1, and I was using 9 before I reinstalled windows. I got 1060 in 3dmark03. But I did some tweaking with v-sync and turned stuff down to better performance level, and then I got 7175 in 01. But games play great, so I'm happy.

5660 Problem!!

Ok finally I can get back to my first review and this time it is not good news...

My primary battery is dead... R.I.P

I am still checking out the secondary battery but it seems to be ok.

I am losing charge from 70% to 5% in less than 10 seconds...things run normally from 100% to 70% and then BOOM!! all alarms go off and the system shuts down...

I have contacted Sager for a replacement...hopefully they can get one across to me ASAP...

Will follow up on this as the process unfolds...

There we go - First major hardware related problem for me. Hopefully the tech support makes it painless.

PHILIPS WARRANTY

HEY!! Guess what came in the mail?? A warranty card from Philips!!

If anyone wants to know what it says just pm me and I will scan the warranty card and mail it to you.

One thing is for sure - the warranty CAN be transferred to anyone in the United States...YAHOO!! You can add the cost of the warranty to the selling price if your system is up for sale...

If anyone else has received this warranty card please lemme know...
I never got a Philips warranty card! I did get the "Color Ware" one (and I'm praying it's worth more than toilet paper).

You should put a link to a scan of it (mask out any identifiable numbers and such).

Re: 5660 Problem!!

I had a similar problem with my battery. I would charge to 100%. I would unplug it and all of the sudden it would drop to about 70% in just a few seconds. From then on it would continue to diminish at a normal pace. I cycled the battery about 3 times and each time the "actual" max charge would go up. At about 85% (100% to 85% quick discharge) I tried something else. I unplugged the cord for about 5 seconds while the machine was on and plugged it back in. It would then charge for about 10 minutes and go to full. This time the charge was from 100% to 86% discharge. I did this continually until i reached about 95% and then I got tired of it But at 100% to 95% discharge I got a respectible amount of time on battery life. What I got out of all this was the battery and charger needs definite improvement.
