Battery dead ?

Hi,

I have an issue with my laptop Area-51m 7700

I think the battery is dead, or possibly the power adapter. As soon as you unplug the power adapter it shuts down instantly, the battery also doesn't seem to charge no matter what state the laptop is in (powered off, in sleep, or on). Sometimes the middle light will be orange, green or what looks like a mix of the two (yellowish) and using a battery monitoring tool, it says its at 0 all the time.

I need too know if the power bar or battery needs replacement or if there is some sort of setting/software fix. The laptop is otherwise running normally once pluged in. (for a while I did have trouble going into sleep and awaking from sleep, though this has seem to have fixed itself)

Thanks for your help.

Erik

Again, call AW TS. They'll be able to walk you through the appropriate procedures and make records of their findings.

I have a similar problem so i went to the alienware website and i posted in their technical forums. I was told to reseat the battery and i did. That worked. The battery started to charge again. I do not use my laptop away from my desk and its solely as a desktop replacement and again the tech advised to take out the battery since i do not use it and once or twice a month, put it back in to recharge the battery. Hope it helps.

Ya my warranty is up so AW refuses to help... nice policy. Anyways, I tried re-seating (does that mean just taking it out and putting it back in ?) and it didn't change anything... any other way too know if its toast or if its the adapter?

Thanks for your help, guys.

go to the website and post it. They wont offer to fix it but they will give you some help. Sorry about not being much help. Go to the top of the forums and click search...then type in "battery" and it will show dozens of poeple who have had the same problem as yourself.
