Which Audigy 2 card fits into D/Dock

Hi,
I've called Creative and Dell about getting an Audigy 2, ZS, or X-Fi card that will fit in D/Dock. I have asked for a PCI card, which is 1/2 length or "low profile." Neither company knows or has what I'm looking for.
If any of you have used one of these cards successfully with D/Dock PCI slot, please tell me exactly which model you have.
I've already tried Search to know that such is available.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

I'm not sure what the sizes of the cards are, but you can ask if they are less than 6.9" long. That is the max length for a half-length pci card (actually it's 6.9xx but I can't remember what the 'xx' is ). Sorry I can't be more help, but if you ask them that, they should know the dimensions of the cards they make.

I can confirm that the Audigy 2 ZS pci card physically fits in the D\Dock; however, I am having some difficulty with my D\Dock's PCI slot, so I can't tell you for sure that it works (although I believe that other people have are using it).

Thank you both for the helpful answers, I'll go by your measurments, SirMeili.
Sykes, what difficulty are you having with your D/Dock and the card or other cards. Maybe it will help me know what to expect.

I think I just have a bad PCI slot--Windows doesn't see what is in the PCI slot at all (I've tried with my Audigy 2 card, as well as a network card). I've tried it on both my M1710, and a Latitude D610 and I have the same problem (D610 is officially compatible), so I'm pretty sure it is just a bad dock.

I have a new D\Dock on the way that should be here tomorrow ... hopefully that will fix the problem.

I ordered the Audigy 2 ZS PCI, and will report back too. Happily, you will probably know tomorrow.

I have a X-Fi conected to my pci d/dock slor and it works wonders.
Maybe you do have a bad slot

which D dock are you guys using?
The only D/Dock there is Bal There is the D/Dock and the D/Port. The D/Dock has a half length, full height pci slot and a D/bay (for an extra optical drive, hard drive, or you can charge the D/Bay size batteries for the latitude line). The d/port is just aport replicator (not the d/dock is the d/port with the additions above).

here's a link to the d/Dock: d/dock

I'm using the one iwth the part number that Meili mentioned; however, I just noticed that this popped on S&A:

I have no idea what the difference is, but it is a different part number.

Sykes, my part # on the packing slip for the D/Dock is PD891, the same as the mfr.# shown on your link. The description of the D/Dock there is that it is compatible with the M90. Sir Meili's link has a mfr.#8W925 and is purported to be compatible with various Latitudes and the M60. It's probably an older part (not necessarily different though.

I wonder why they have two parts with different compatibility. Perhaps they aren't all compatible, or maybe they updated it. I had to have my laptop replaced and they had to reorder it since the "d/dock" part number with my original order was no longer valid and was holding up my replacement.

note: i have yet to receive my replacement..and it's been almost a month

I got my second one in today and my Audigy 2 ZS works perfectly in it, so I've confirmed it was just a bad D\Dock. Both of the D\Docks that I have show a part number of PD01X on the label on the bottom. The one with the bad PCI slot is actually newer than the one I just got with the good PCI slot (both off of eBay, but the bad has a newer revision version of the label).

So, I still have no idea what the difference is, but it does not appear to be a compatibility issue.

Glad to hear it Sykes. Thanks for posting your good outcome. Enjoy! I'll post back with my outcome too.

Hi all

good to see some d/dock users around.

Im planning to get one in order to use it with my M90 (20 days wainting it!) and I have just read here that the d/dock can host an extra hard drive and it sounded like a great option to me.
I would love to know what type of hard drive it can manage, 2.5" or 3,5ยท hd? IDE or SATA? It needs some adaptor or special case or I can fit inside directely the hard drive?
If someone tested it how is the performance of that interface/bus?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but the info in the Dell site about it is very poor.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know why everyone seems to have such faith in the PCI slot in the D/Dock.

I mean, there's more of a reason so many are for sale on eBay than "corporate overflow." I wouldn't be thinking these are "wunderboxen" quite yet. There's quite a bit that has to get transferred over that one connector.

destruya if you know some facts about problems that it has I would like to know before I purchase one.

A 2.5" PATA hard drive could be fitted using a D/bay adapter.

thanks for the info tentonine.

So it needs an adapter...and a "not cheap" 2.5 hd, hmm...

I'm merely stating common sense - that one connector is supposed to handle ALL traffic from the D/Dock, including a 133MB/sec theoretical max PCI slot and a drive?

It just sounds sketchy to me to trust so many different interfaces to that one connection and expect 100% reliability.
