No it is part of the cooling system. And it is why the XPS will be able to upgrade to a Prescott 4.0Ghz and mobility radeon 9800.
Thats Gross. Those legs will not make the system artic. The system will still get HoT, maybe not as hot, but still HoT.

I think liquid cooling has a future or some form of it. Please Please tell me there is because i dont want to have to put wheels on my next Lap...."Table-Top"

Actually the best thing for notebooks is to have an all aluminum body to dissipate heat. Systems with aluminum alloy bodies run great with no fans at all. Just look at the PowerBook G4s.

Liquid cooling still require massive heatsinks to remove heat from the liquid...notebooks with them will sound like car engines...

Uh, my cousin has a 17" HP and he does just fine thank you. Is it portable as an 8600? Hellz no...It wasn't targeted towards the same audience...obviously. Speaking of weight, it weighs less than the N5010.

Ugly as sin? Yes. Power packed? Yes. Portable? Yes. As portable as an 8600? No.
Rock on, Kev! My tag team partner has spoken!! Hope your 8600 is still treating you well.
Check out the Unreal Tournament 2004 demo. It's awesome in the 1920x1200 mode!

Well, since the entire body is a heatsink, I guess it does get hot...

But no or very little fan noise! That is a priority for me.

The 9100 is in the exact same chassis as the XPS (basically the same computer) with eaker video offerings. neither are centrinos.
??
Where are you getting this information from?
Is this fact or just guessing?

Thanks

What I was interested to know was about when he said:

"The new video card (slated to be released may/June) is indeed the Mobility Radeon 9800 Pro with 256MB of memory. those cards are already in existence..."

Is this truth or bologna?
It is true that the Inspiron 9100 will be almost identical to the XPS. I don't know who started to say that the 9100 will be a Dothan notebook. It had been said in the very beginning that Dell will offer two flavors of the new design, the XPS being the faster and the 9100 being the slower.

In May/June?

Is there truth to this?

If so..... I'm waiting....

I had an Area-51m (2.8 GHz, ATI 9600 128 MB, 60 GB 7200 HD, 512 MB, 16.1" UXGA) and returned it because of its lousy screen and power problems. My Dell 8600 runs my games as well or better than the 51m. A fully decked out 51m also costs well over $4500, so it's not cheap, either. I will grant that the 51m is the best looking notebook available. Too bad its performance couldn't match its appearance.

I'm waiting for news on the 9800, too. If it's true, I'll be buying an XPS without hesitation!

u guys can believe what you want, im not telling you to believe me.
Just curious what the source of your info is.

I for one never 'believe' anything. I only predict based on fact. Nothing personal.

Hey man, we are not doubting you. We are just curious about your source of info. Thats all.

Care to explain?

Thanks

I still havent understood why they made it so ugly.

Im sure an executive is reading this right now thinking,

bah! stupid fools, I'm the executive at Dell, what are you!

Its ugly because it has to dissipate heat!

... erm right.
As for "ugly", I think it has a utilitarian look about it. It's attractive in a "Howard Roark" kind of way... like the Sager 8890.
i specd one out for $3400...about $400 more than a comprable sager. but i think she looks better, appears to have a better lcd, more powerful battery, hella performance and all this at nine pounds. i 'd buy one....
