Battlefield 2 1.3 patch (crashing to desktop)

Inspiron 9300 w/ 6800go and 1gb of ram.

After installing the 1.3 incremental patch it starts to load a map and just crashes to desktop. Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem (I know we have at least a few BF2 players in here).

Anyway, I am trying a full reinstall w/ the full 1.3 patch. I'll let everyone know if it works.

Of COURSE I just gave EA more money buying the SF expansion right before trying the latest patch. *sigh*

Isn't the new patch 1.22?

EDIT: Uninstall, reinstall, full patch did the job... always great when a patch completely hoses a program.

http://www.ea.com/official/battlefie...sp?src=bf2_1_3 Battlefield 2 v1.3 Hi Everyone, Patch 1.3 has now been released and is available for immediate download. The release of this patch is in line with our ongoing effort to make the game as enjoyable as possible, releasing quicker fixes addressing some of the things that you want to see changed. New Features: * Co-op: Players can now enjoy single player levels on Internet and LAN play with both Bots and human players. We have added a few options to allow the server admin to modify how the bots behave in game. Co-op play is not permitted on ranked servers. * Air Dropped Vehicles: Squad members can no send a request to commanders to drop vehicles at their location. Bug Fixes & Gameplay Tweaks: * Ban list will no longer be wiped in the event of a server crash. * Abandoned helicopters will no longer remain in flight. * If a player joins a squad while dead they will not be permitted to use the squad leader as a spawn point until they have spawned at a flag once. * Flag Capture bar will now react accurately to players entering the capture radius. * Friendly vehicles will no longer appear as valid targets for missile systems. The box with the X through it will still appear however the locked tone will not sound and missiles fired will not track the friendly target. * Fixed the crash that sometimes occurred when switching between game types. * Fixed a tech hang when creating a single player account from an offline account. * Fixed Issues with remote console and Linux servers. * Fixed the issue that prevented players from ranking up in-game when playing on their regular server. * Fixed the bug that altered mini map behavior. * Fixed issue with Special Forces rank names. * Fixed repairing HUD for the engineer when in a vehicle.

I had that issue too, but upgrading to the newer 9*.** (whatever they are) drivers fixed it for me. Too bad I just sent my lovely e1705 away with the UPS man

I had modified content in my BF2 so I decided to do a complete reinstall first anyway. I am SOOOOOOOOOO very happy EA FINALLY added coop to the game. About a year of protest from thousands of players and many mod attempts, it's finally here. The 1.3 patch did screw up my EuroForce expansion though. Maybe I'll have to buy it this time...

BTW, upgrade your system to 2 Gb of ram if you have the cash. I can run at top res with all settings on high. Here's what I got and many others say it's great too. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227110

I ran into this problem trying the incremental patch to 1.22. After the rrors/crash, I downloaded/installed the full 1.22 and it worked fine. I did the same with 1.3 and so far no problems.

There are bunches of bugs in 1.3. I have never had a CTD until 1.3. Also the server browser is awful I click on one and it totally changes places. Also reports
crazy high pings. Im rolling back to 1.22 and I wouldnt be suprised if EA does the same.

Check out the EA forums for a list of all the new bugs.

EA has truly ruined this game.

I came across this problem yesterday and it was pissing me off. I had version 1.22 and dl the incremental and full patch. To make a long story short I had to reinstall BF2 to the version that came with the CD and used the full 1.3 patch. Using the incremental patch and full patch on 1.22 would not let me play the game at all.

Good point. I just noticed the bug where you try to select a server in multiplayer and the selection changes places. Wow, that sucks. I thought someone had owned my system.

When I play single player I often have issues even when set on medium display settings. It doesnt lock up or stutter as much as it stops lagging in responce to my keystrokes or mouse movement. I have a Gen 2 with 6800 ultra 1 gig and 2 ghz.

So its established that the server browser bug is not limited to the full 1.3 patch. Good to know, I was considering giving the full install a shot. I wiill revert back to 1.22 instead.

EA's Official response:
Community Update - 5/25/06

Attention Soldiers and Server Admins!

After a thorough investigation into the issues plaguing the server browser after the 1.3 Update, we believe that a last minute update in the way the Battlefield servers and Gamespy servers communicate may be the cause.

We have decided to revert this change in an attempt eliminate these browser issues. Please note that no uninstalling or re-installing is required by players or server admins. All servers currently running must be restarted once this change has taken place.

Please also note that if you are experiencing CTD issues upon start up that any alternate-ranking redirections in your windows "Hosts" file must be removed.

The reversion will occur at 2:00 PST. We are continuing to review other issues players have noted with 1.3. Further updates will be posted to this space as they become available."

I thought I would post this link here... I was a big fan of The All Seeing eye, because the server browser in BF2 is awful...

With the 1.3 patch, however, it no longer works due to some anti-DoS fix...

Anyway, check out qtracker... It rocks!!
