Possible GROUP BUY on Atheros WiFi a/b/g mini PCI Express Cards
Well I tried to get the Atheros WiFi PCI mini card for my M1710 but on closer inspection they will not fit, the M1710's take Atheros WiFi Mini PCI Express Cards, anyhow I hunted around eBay and I located a eBayer "trinitel" that I have been in touch with, and is very interested to do a similar group discount sell just like the other thread http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=122352 , so this poll is just to see how many would be tentatively intested so he can work out the discount prices based on numbers.

This is not mini-pci, but the newer MINI PCI-EXPRESS.

Hopefully depending on the response here are the proposed price breaks. (maybe $4-5 shipping via USPS)

50 or less we can do $65 + shipping,
51 - 99 we can do $60 + shipping,
100 - 200 we can do $55 + shipping,
200 + we can do $50 + shipping

I just sent this exact card back to this seller. Mine was giving be BSOD every other hour or so...Hope it was just a single card issue. He is going to check it out and get back to me. I tried everything to get it to work consistently..It is an easy swap though..

Well this is VERY tentative, but this is the first time I have ever had a dell wireless card, and I may be interested. It will all depend on the price, when you do this, and how well my current card performs. So I will say maybe

I'm sure if you could find someone who's had both cards, and let everyone know their results it'd be alot easier for people to commit.

Just a thought Great idea!

It doesn't really matter to me. Intel cards just suck. Flat out. I had an Atheros Mini PCI in my last notebook. Way more flexibility, better range, more features, didn't drop.

I tried the lenovo version of the atheros mini pci express in my m90 and it was not compatible. Tried about ten different drivers and nothing..It recognized the card, but gave me an error code 10..can't start card. It was based on the 5006x if my memory serves me correctly. I have since seen this one on ebay, and hope it will work.

Figured I would throw my two cents in here guys....I have an e1705 with the Intel 3945 wireless. I began having some issues with my web connection when I would have bluetooth enabled on the lappy, so I just disabled it. Then I decided to get a Bluetooth MX1000 because my MS 4000 laptop mouse was giving me hand cramps. Needless to say when I re-enabled the bluetooth the WiFi connection issues occurred. It would occasionally lose the signal and in general become a little sluggish. I decided to order a new wireless card based on the Atheros 5006EX chipset. The part I ordered, which is a mini PCI-E is a PCD Global WLL4080PCIX. I installed the card over the weekend and have mixed feelings. The software for the Intel 3945 definitely looks cleaner and more polished/easier to use than the PCD Global card. In the same situations the PCD Global card responded with lower signal strengths and connection speeds than the 3945 card. This was based on connection in our new vacation house with a Motorola 54g wireless router. Today in the office with a Netgear WGR614 router I can report that the connection seems more reliable than with the Intel card, I have not seen the same lagging as I did with the Intel card + bluetooth. Again, the connection signals are lower as is the connection speed, but this may be because the Intel card/software is reporting nicer numbers or not updating as frequently. Right now, I can't say the "cross-grade" was worth it, but I have some more testing yet to do. If you have any questions let me know. BTW, PCD Global went out of their way to Saturday Deliver the card to me at my vacation home, of course I paid the extra $$$, but they were very helpful and the product does work.
