Any way to turn the sound off BEFORE windows?

Sometimes i'll forgot to mute my laptop before I turn it off to go to class... I've looked around in the bios to see if there is a way to turn off the integrated sound in there, but no luck.

Is there a way to disable sound before windows boots?

I don't believe there is a way. I'd love to do that same thing with my 600m but to remedy the problem in a half-a$$ed way I just plug in my headphones I always have with me. Solves the problem.

Go to:
1. Control Panel
2. Sound and Audio Devices
3. Sound.
From here select what you want with set "none"

That's always been my solution too.

I've actually just cut off the little 3.5mm jack on one set and now I just leave it in there all the time so I don't ever get a nice loud sound when turning on my laptop in class. If I want sound, I just take it out, it works great.

I cut the thing down to stick out justttttt enough for me to be able to pull it out, and filled it with hot glue and painted it black. Doesn't look great, but it doesn't look terrible, and definitely works.

It doesn't work before windows is loaded.. Although you CAN try to time it right..

You can just plug something into the headphone port. That cuts all noise from it. Put something like an adaptor in there.

you can go into sounds and remove the windows start up tune if you wanted. means you wouldn't have to worry about this in future.

^ good idea!

why are you listening to anything in class. you're supposed to be taking notes right?

you'll just have to put down your bong and remember to press mute, lol

but DO turn off your sound scheme in control panel>sounds and audio devices>sounds tab. under sound scheme switch to no sounds, save your previous scheme if its anything other than the default option

but im not exactly sure what you are trying to mute. the windows logon sounds? the former will solve this, but if youre watching movies or browsing or music, then you're SOL

then theres that annoying beeping sound you change the volume in the task tray or under sound props. but there's a registry key to fix that.

i just plug a set of headphones in, to be safe. no one likes to hear that windows boot up sound when u log in. headphones are usually in the bag, so i just plug them in, hit the mute button after login, and throw them back in the bag.

may not be a suggestion you are looking for but its easy, and really haslle free.

i still think that changing to sound to nothing is easier, plus then you never have to hear it again

Other alternative: Mute it before turning down the computer?

That's the problem we are trying to solve. Most of the time I forget to mute it before I shut it down then when I turn it back on I remember and throw in the headphones for a second.
