Or is any other user out there willing to share pre and post-flash benchies? ps. My 7405GX has been at the hands of BB for over 2 months(that's why I can't do it). I bought mine and the service plan at the US, and the unit was brought to a Canadian BB store in order to replace the lid. Their excuse is that it had to be sent to the US in order to be fixed.
i play Cod (1&2), AoE (2&3) and a bit or WoW. With 0F09 i can currently crank the graphic options in these games to the max w/o a lag in system performance (this is BEFORE my 3400+ installation, now it just flies), graphic responses are quite smooth. Even on battery - of course it would scream at me after 1hr40min that my battery is about to take a conk :-) I believe that this is due to the 3D stabilisation improved capability mentioning in the bios more than anything else I m not too much in the benchmarking of games, if u have any preset numbers u'd like to know, just drop a note. Most my m6805 usage is in Photoshop-ing, Freehand-ing, database performance analysis and some small development when I use my Linux partition. cheers ...

I actually just got another bios from the same guy. He says this one fixes the incorrectly listed CPU speed. I should have it up shortly.

You're referring to the newest Arima, not the Targa, right? I'd make a bootable cd using either the 0F08.P01 or the Targa 0F09 and reflash back if I were you.

Thanks for posting your experience, btw, even if it is a bummer. Hope you can get it back up.

You said that you got it form a local Dealer, was it sold "AS IS", and I sure would tell them about it, they should replace it, or at the very least FIX, it!

You ought to be able to pick up a cd-r/w-dvd-r off ebay or from a gateway parts shop online for $60 if you end up eating the replacement cost. Replacing one is usually a single screw. Here's a bunch of them for buy it now" price of $45, and I think the model is compat with yours.

And the seller, Zkarlo is a totally reputable guy who specializes in emachines laptop parts.
DVD writers go out often, and by the time it pukes, a firmware update is usually too little too late.
The local dealer is the one you need to get onto. If he balks, just letting your community know what you've mentioned here would be a kick in his balls. And he should know that, whether or not you have to spell it out.
I'm assuming it's not BestBuy or some big outfit you got it at since they're usually real good about these kind of issues.

p.s. in this case, it's not emachines being a dud, since they buy them as stock items from standard builders like Lite-On. I've had 3-4 desktop Lite-Ons, and the 1st 3 crapped out within 6-12 months. But I drive them hard. The one I've got now has held up great...so far.
