dual/triple monitors

Is it possible to connect 2 external monitors to the m1710 (via the vga and dvi) and also run the laptop screen at the same time?

I do alot of design work so it would be very useful if this was possible.

Thanks in advance

using only the internal grfx card you can only power 2 monitors at a time. They can be dual externals if you want or the internal and an external. If you go with the D/Dock, ATI sells a card that will fit into it that will allow you to run 2 additional monitors. Granted the ATI card won't be great for anything besides 2D, it will give you some extra real estate .

you actually run 3 but one is cloned from the display which renders it moot

Well, there's another option, but a very expensive one.

actually since there is no PCMCIA slot on the m1710, this is not an option for him

Actually, it is. I did say it was an expensive option - he'd have to buy another laptop as well.

hehheh actunlly ATI sells a card that will fit in the D/Dock that can run 4 additional monitors via DVI (for a total of six including the notebook's output)... but... that's getting kinda crazy.

BTW: I should be getting the ATI with 2 DVI ports soon.

PS: going the ATI/D/Dock route is still much better than the Matrox Dual/TripleHead solution for anyone for whom it is an option.

Thanks the replies.

How easy is it to get all the monitors working?

Is it a case of simply plonking the laptop onto the docking station and XP automatically detects the pci card and extends the desktop .... or would i have to turn the laptop off and then mess around in display properties etc.

anyone tried this: http://www.maxivista.com/how.htm its software that allows you to extend your desktop onto extra monitors through your network connection, it also transfers keyboard and mouse inputs.

Check the demo video out: http://www.maxivista.com/demo.htm

Im going to try this it will save me mega bucks if it works
