Well Johnny, you are a brave soul indeed. Here, I have a couple suggestions for you since you're not giving up:
1) PC BIOS: Try to compare the XPS 1710 and 170 BIOS and find the area where video cards are delineated. I know we're flying blind here, but we know a couple of things. First, we know that the 7900 gpu, G71, is not supported in the M170 bios. Second, we know that the 7800 gpu, G70, is supported in the M1710 bios. This is important, because that means that at least some parts of the 1710 bios are the same as the 170 bios (where the 7800 is located). Locating and adding that difference to the 170 bios "may" be a possibility of adding support.
2) Video Card BIOS: I originally had an idea to change simply the ID of the card's bios from 7900 to 7800. Problem is... it didn't work. But, I have an idea about WHY it didn't work. If you flash a card simply with the board ID, that doesn't completely fool the system. There is a thread here http://www.mvktech.net/component/opt...limitstart,20/
that kind of talks about something similar to what I had in mind. There should be a more in-depth video card BIOS modification in order to get this to run. Basically, you'd have to make the system think that the G71 is actually a G70.
Hope that gives some ideas
