No that is not possible as there are traces running through there and in between the layers.

Good trail blazing Corn. Oh and youre stripping the hell out of your screws. Its time to look for replacements.

LoL, Yeah this like the 18th time I have opened this thing up

So... how about that bios dump? Maybe a new thread would help? I'm going to start looking into editing the bios, it can't be rocket science, surely :-P

It would be more beneficial to keep all information related to this mod in one thread until it can actually be pulled off.

bios flash

is it possible to test the bios fuctionality by trying:
1) a 6800 in the lappy
2) unplug the power addapter
3) install a 7800
4) reboot with the 7800 (and disconnected power connector) to see if the bios reccognizes the new 7800 installed...

the only reason i'm wondering is that with my old desktop(4-5 gens back)
when my overclocked system failed(blue screen) & if i had installed a new video card it would do "something" to the bios that required the original card to be re-installed to boot to to bios screen
weird yes but i'm thinking that the bios might not work in full functioning if the connector is unplugged so.... trying a two card switch with it unplugged(using 2 cards you have) might test this theory
post #46 of 382
It should be possible to change the hardware id of the card with a simple hardmod but that probably wouldnt serve our purposes. At best youd only be able to fool the system into thinkning the card was a 7900 GS or a Quadro.

Folks Can someone hook this man up. Here is his PM to me in response to how to obtain the PCI identifier information:

Run anything like Sandra or another diagnostic tool that enumerates all the PCI devices and shows you information about them.

Those of you who have the 7900 GTX, 7900 GS and others would you be so kind as to run SiSoft Sandra and send him this info.

We would like to keep the ball rolling here but we need a collective effort. Thanks

Guys, the 7900GS might work, but you know, there can be issues with the 7900GTX, so i wouldnt get too excited.

Just because im a nice guy:

Me too. I'm not sure the performace difference between the 7800gtx and the 7900gtx is worth the upgrade, but it gives hope for future cards. I just hope our single core cpu's don't hold us back too much as far as performance in future games.

Any new info Hazridi or cornholio?

Is there a program that lets you take an image of your BIOS?
i wud rather have the 7900gtx work out because from wat i've been told a 7800gtx oc'd gets the same 3d mark (or better) than a 7900go. i clocked mine with a very stable oc (i could push it harder) and got right around 7500 in '05

Here's the deal: you can use nvflash to dump your current bios. Alternately, nibitor may also be used to get a bios dump, as well as edit your current bios (with voltage changes even).
