It looks like it's going to be a monster of a GPU!

Also, if you're like me and hate ATI's CCC (Catalyst Control Center), here you can get the new 6.5 driver with the control panel insted of the bloatware riddled CCC.

Better doesn't always mean faster, as demonstrated by Intel with the Pentium M architecture.

Ya, it really blows Hammer. I think it shows a total lack of faith in Vista on the part of Microsoft to try to force us into having to have Vista. As a side note, Mirco(we don't make enough cash)soft is going to be ending all updates for XP six months after the launch of Vista... Damm them!

They would be shooting themselves in the foot if they did that. Think of how many businesses run XP Pro. Besides, they are still releasing updates for 2000...

No offence to that other guy, but, I think Microsoft is a money grubbing whore of a company, with little interest in making something other then cash.

Revenant is correct. Microsoft's website is very specific about when support transitions. XP will go from Mainstream (current) support levels to Self Help (no more updates) 24 months after the official release date of Vista. You can look it up at microsoft.com

As to DX10 being Vista only, that is necessary because Vista handles drivers in a fundamentally different manner than XP (or for that matter other prior iterations of Windows) and DX10 is written to support the new methodlogy. To have a DX10 for XP would require pretty much a complete rewrite to make in effect a legacy application.

Isnt that one of the fundamental goals needed for a company to survive?

Vista is a big update to the windows os and directx, all directx9 apps running on vista using directx 10 hardware will run in emulation. So really this is a no win situation for Microsoft if they made just an update like directx 8 to 9 and it would run on XP people would complain that its not a big anuff update if they do what there doing releasing it on Vista and having a huge update people complain that there not supporting XP and directx 9.
