D-Dock and Ageia PhysX card

Thread Starter
Have anyone who is using D-Dock tried it?!
I was just wondering about that yesterday and would like to know if anyone with the dock thinks an Ageia card would fit.

i dont think it will, because if i am correct, the card is a pci x-1 slot and not a pci-e.

The ageia card is not pci-e, I believe it is a pci-x, but if it's a full-length pci card, I'm not sure if it'll fit in the docking slot.

Hrm, that actually leads me to a question that I have.

Is the D/Dock PCI port just a vanilla PCI port? Or is it a PCI Express port?

(Sorry for the n00b question but I don't know what PCI-E and PCI-X stand for.

It's just a regular Old Fashioned PCI port

And it appears that they sell the Physx card in pci form (it depends on the manufacturer, I've only seen BFG and ASUS versions and they were all PCI)

I think it would physically fit, but PhysX cards require an auxiliary power connector (a 4 pin molex connector like those used on desktop PC drives), so it wouldn't work in a D\Dock without some serious modding . You'd have to first relocate the power connector because there is no clearance behind the card, then you'd have to figure out a way to supply power (and enough of it) to the connector to drive the card. Then after that, there is a good chance that you'll have cooling issues because the card will have no clearance around it for air flow.

Whew, thanks for the confirmation. I have an ATI FireMV card enroute, so wanted to make sure I ordered the correct format. - DH
