Emachine 6811 suddenly refuses to boot up

I have a 6811 refurb (from macuniverse) that is a dual boot machine and it tanked miserably yesterday. I'm hoping someone has been down this road before and has advice.

The specs: Emachines M6811 AMD Athlon 64 3400+ 1gig ram 80GB DVD Burner Wifi 15.4" WXGA. Using with 002R.

As of yesterday, it will no longer bootup. It is making some strange high pitched knocking noises as it tries to boot up. Booting from Windows OS cd doesn't work. The restore disc I got from macuniverse does not work.

When i booted up from my Ghost cd to try to restore the c: drive, i got the blue screen with the following message: "The problem seems to be caused by this file: goback2k.sys"

I didn't install anything new. This just happened out of nowhere. Has anyone seen anything like this? Is it a hardware issue?

Thanks for any insights,

chblow

sounded like a bad stick of ram -> try to remove one and see
or worst - agp! -> new mobo
under warranty? send it back.

i'd try the removal of the ram first.

cheers ...

HDD most likely if you are hearing a mechanical knock.

It was the hard drive. Replaced that and all is well
