Completely lost with Nvidia drivers

Thread Starter
Well, I havn't had a Nvidia product since a Ti4200, so, I've been trying to read up on everything, from laptopvideo2go and tweaksrus but need a bit of help from you guys.

I understand the concept of both desktop, and modified mobile forceware drivers.

My problem is, well -- mainly what to use. I'd like to use Tweaks stuff but with all the driver versions I'm a bit befuddled. I'm planning on doing a mild overclock on the 7900 GS I'll have later this afternoon.

So, I need it laid out plain and simple.

My usual driver installation technique is uninstall, wipe with drivercleaner, reboot, install the new driver.

I'm a bit lost on when to add the inf, where to add it, when to install the new driver...well...you get the picture.

Thanks for the superb amount of resources guys, I'm just a bit thick I guess.

Currently running one of laptopvideo2go's most stable releases: nVIDIA ForceWare 84.56 from:

http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...showtopic=9616

1) DL the driver

2) DL the INF like this>right-click and "save target as" the modded INF (do it like this or you'll open the INF as a text file!)

3) Scroll down to the Notes section of that page and DL NVLITE. (Or, here's a link to the DL....)

http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/nvlite...shtml#download

4) Unzip the driver files.

8) Drag the modded INF into the driver folder.

9) Choose to over-write the stock INF.

10) Unzip the NVLITE, put it in the driver folder, open the folder and run NVLITE. Just follow the steps.

11) Next, run Driver Cleaner Pro. (Follow its instructions to-the-letter.)

12) Install the new drivers, using this method:

Good luck!

Thanks for the help mate! I went ahead and downloaded the 84.21 according to "Bills driver reccomendations" -- Only problem is, I'm having trouble getting the overclock settings to stay with the drivers. I auto detect the OC, or manually enter it in, and as soon as I close the control panel it reverts to stock clocks.

You're welcome!

In order to get the OC settings to 'stick' you'll need to flash the videocard's BIOS. See post #7 (and subsequent posts) in this thread:
