Every card is different, This is totaly off the subject of notebook cards, but I had a Brand New 9700Pro back when it first came out (and still sitting in my closet) that would only clock up 25Mhz on the core and like 35Mhz on the memory, meanwhile my cousin bought the one right next to it on the shelf and got his to overclock pass a 9800pro, Another example I have a X800Pro i was using in my desktop untill 2 months ago stock clocks are 475/900 I got that to overclock with no modding to 625\1240 I was blowing out x850xt back in the day with my 800pro, so as saying not all cards are created the same, and even the go series was siiliar to me my old go7800 maxed out at 450/1200 and there were other on this forum getting 495\1275, I dont see how? My 7800GTX wont budge past 430/1200, The 7900 series I have been a little more luckeier with they do clock good for me, the 7900GS i had was a single Pipe and i had it for a while at 625/1250 but after a while it would get a little artifacts and warm, I havent tried anything except 600/1400 on my 7900GTX for i have only had it for 1 day.

Well Decided to flash my 7900GTX higher which is odd because after the falsh, it runs 1' degree less at full load, Now i ran atitool for 45 minutes and did get artifacts all overthe place (little speckels) but max temp stayed at 81' degrees. Ran 3dMark05 6 times in a row same with 3dMark06 and not a sinle problem also gamed for an hour and not one problem Below is my best scores so far using EXtreme-m 91.31-2.40a drivers:
CLOCKS TEMPS(IDLE-FULL) 3DMark05(DEFUALT) 3DMark06(1280x1024)
600\700 45-55 82 9658 5507
625\750 45-55 81 9828 5723

**So what do you guys think should i just ignore atitools detecting artifacts since nothing shows in any benchtest and gaming for hours and no signs of artifacts, I'm thinking of maybe trying 650\750 next.

Hey guys, using these drivers seem to yeild higher overclock results, now i could be wrong, but when i was using the dells i could never get clocks this high with this card. But i was bored and tried differebt settings in coolbits to try to see what combo of speeds i could reach and i tried it 15 times and coolbits accepted 640\770 for my 7900GTX, this would probably fry the card wouldnt it? Ive been testing and playin with 625\750 all day today and they are more than stable and a max temp of 81 degrees is as far as it will go, and im not even using I8kfangui or any other fan control software, cooling is handled by defualt. Can u imagine if these speeds could hold? were talkin just a hair away from the 7900GTX desktop card, I dont think im gonna take the chance to BBQ my week old 7900GTX tho. if temps would stay low enough, in theory, doing a volt mod of vid7-1.28 may get the card at 650\800, another stunt i dont think i have the courage to do ether, Nice to dream tho, lol.

my e1705

Hi i just bought a e1705 2.13 duo,2 gigs ram,60 gig hard drive 7200 rpm, with a 512 mb 7900 gtx card i installed. I was wondering what is the best numbers for overclocking i dont want to fry it. It looks like the 600/700 is good waht would be the score for it??? Thmxxx
post #105 of 199
Well I have similiar specs to yours, I never ran the 7900GTX at stock clocks but when i had mine at 600\700 I scored:
3DMark05 600\700: 9658 Max Temps 82'
3DMark06 600\700: 5507 Max Temps 82'
You will your laptop, since i got mine I dont even game on it anymore, well since I used to think my desktop was a monster when i built it. Below is a comparason of all clocks and speeds

That last post made no sence... I ment that you will love your new E1705, ever since i got mine i hardly game on my desktop anymore, infact since it is just sitting around being an over priced, over performanced file server I have put it up for sale.

flashed bios....

7900GTX

600/700.....5371
650/725.....Crashed

I'm not doing this anymore...I heard some nasty high pitched buzzing noise @ 650/725.

I'm still stable at 600/700 though.

Is it OK to leave it at 600/700 permanently? Or should i clock it down to original speeds.
I had mine for a while at 600\700 and it was fine just put it up to 625\750 for the past few days and doing some heavy gaming to test it and it works perfect and only 81 degrees max temps. You will be fine at 600\700 remember, those clocks are used only in 3D apps otherwise your card idles at 100\200 (battery saving mode) and 2D 200\300 (thoddle back & 2D) so you dont have to worry its running at 600\700 all the times, main thing is keep an eye on your temps, heat is what cause electronics mosts death.
I cant see a 7900GTX's core run at 650 without a volt mod but i have seen other run at 650\725, i dont know how? I ran coolbits and the card says it can handle 640\770, but im not about to try that, I am very impressed at 625\750, acctually i just realized thats almost desktop GTX speeds!!!

Coolbits is a registry file that unlocks some hidden features in nvida drivers and control panel, ie. Overclocking utility. If you install a fresh copy of Nvidia certified drivers, and ever go into your display properties ie. Nvidia contol panel there wont be and overclocking tab visable. Once coolbits is added to the registry it enables overclocking from using nvidia's drivers istead of a 3rd party overclocking software. The kinda cool thing about coolbits is it has a self detecting overclock feature it will test your card and see what the highest overclock your card can achieve automatically, and also has a built in tester so if you want to manually overclock your card, you can use your own numbers and run a test if coolbits accept it then you can get away with adding a couple of extra MHz in like: if coolbits gives you a clock of 587\1188 you can probably get away with putting in 600\1200 in most cases.

Hey everyone, great scores your all getting. I am trying to flash my bios. Anyways Im useing that HP USB key boot prog to make my USB a boot drive, anyways when I select an image (I'm using win 98 boot, ive also tried a DOS 6.22 image) it tells me when I reboot and press F12 I choose boot from USB/storage, then it tells me i either have an Invalid system disk or it will just sit at a blinking cursor. Am I doing something wrong?

Heres exactly what im doing. Start HP prog, hit next, choose my USB drive which is "E". Create new or replace existing config. Then I choose to make it a floppy disk, then choose my .img file which my 98 boot. Hit next, and its done. then i reboot and choose to boot from USB/Storage and it says invalid system disk or it sits at a blinking cursor.

Any ideas?

I ran the 3dmark06 on my e1705 at overclock 625c750 i got 9300 now i put on overclcol 600c700 i got 9769!!! wow

Usally when you get a lower score with a higher overclock it means ur overdoing it on the card because the same thing happened to me when I had a 7800 vanillia, I overclocked it to 475\1250 and everything seemed fine except i would get 1000 points less from when i had it clocked at 450\1200. My 7900GTX seems to handle the 625\750 fine, I did get a decent increase from 600\700, it leads me to believe i may just have got lucky with this card and just got a good pick of the litter, because according to coolbits it giving me an auto-overclock of around 640\770, now that dosent mean the card will work at top, or if it does it probably would be overdoing it, and might yeild lowere scores, but the main reason is I'm not about to fry my new card, Im happy where it's at.

I did try volt modding on my 7800Vanilla amd my 7900GS, MY 7800GTX is maxed out. And I could see some play left on the 7900GTX for volt modding, its at 1.24 now, It was crossed my mind if anyone would be daring enough to try 1.25-1.3 and try to breach the 650\800 deasktop limit. The only thing id did notice is the 7900GTX is on vid7-1.24 and thats the highest setting on it, as in no other vid#

Well i have got up to 610/725 at the momemnt, started getting memory errors at 735, so i'll leave it at 725 and just carry on with the gpu clocks. But for now this will do, as my previous overclock was just 550/700.
