overclocking

i just did at 625/750 but im only getting 9400.y?
What drivers are you using, I was using the dell stocks at first and was only getting like 9400+ then i put in XTreme's 91.31-2.40a and it jumped up to 9828, Went back and tested 600\700 with these drivers and went down to 8992 so I believe these drives in combo with the higher overclock makes a difference! Not to change the subject I know this is not the right forum, but did anyone notice the T7400 "Merom" Core 2 Duo 2.16Ghz are avalable for $398 AND THEY WILL WORK IN OUR DELLS! These chips outperform AMD's FX-60 and there under $400! Yet I have read evey reveiw on it and they dont give much more of an edge on gamming maybe 2to4 FPS on games and 400 more points in 3dmark.
Hey Grindn4life, you the memory at 750, have you thought going more on the core, I was debating on trying 640\750 today, also what drivers are you using? My memory is holding fine at 750, and like i had written before coolbits is giving me a little more headroom on the memory saying it will accept 770, but from what i noticed the 7900GTX has enough bandwidth, and it seems to get more performance from upping the core. I'm surprised nobody here has considered volt modding, Every other forum talks about rasing the 7800Vanillia & 7900GS volts (which i had done myself too) It look like there is some headroom on the 79GTX to do so, its' at 1.24v, even now i max out at 86 degrees which is not too bad, i was wondering going up on volts maybe 1.28 and see if 650 would hold? What do you guys think, or would i be playing with fire?

volting

i did mine at 1.24 and my graphics overclocked at 625/750 and im using the xtreme drivers. Also my cpu temps are only lke 35c-45c max and my gpu has never passed 50c even with oveerclocking. I was wondering how is that? Also i think you should try that. It will probably work fine becasue i accidently picked 650/750 it was working fine my max gpu temp was 66 c running 3dmark05 hen i changed it back because i hadnt voled it yet. And i was using hardare conrol center and it modded to 1.24. Is there any other way to volt mod? Thnxxx!!!

I think you should do it i am because my temp levels are so low right ow after running 3dmark05 3 times in a row my cpu temp is only 25c!And the good part is that my gpu temp is only 45c after tsting and my fan speeds are low. ANd the best part of all is after disabling my wireless and all my apps like mcafee aim and stuff i got a score of 10,041 on 3dmark 05 with 625/700!!!!

Follow this guide to make your own boot disk. You can tweak the voltages with NiBiTor.

the only thing is the 7900GTX is already set at the highest vid setting which is vid7 but since we are trying to up the volts I'm sure it would be fine. I Know the 7800 GTX runs a 1.3, so maybe going to 1.26-1.28 would be around a good spot to pull off a 650 core, If the temps stay cool enough. Im at 625 and standard 1.24 and the highest i have ever hit (and playing for hours) is 86 degrees, which i beileve is nothing to worry about.

Well I figured I would try it i tried 1.27v at 650\750 no dice ati tool gave artifacts then locked up the system, Then tried 1.3v and the exact same thing. So back to 625\750 at 1.24 and everything is fine as always. It seems if this volt modding will work, it seems more than 1.3 will be needed and that scares me a bit, well I got the ball rolling if anybody wants to continue where i left off, it's all yours. I am some what afraid of rasing the volts any higher than that, My guess before was way off on estimating a volt to use, now I am thinking maybe 1.35 or more may be needed.

I have 2 Q's. 1st. how do ou vol mod? 2.) on coolbits everytime i change setings and apply then exit it goes bck to oriinall settings and the bootdisk doesnt let 650c740 y is that???
The only card that coolbits or any overclocking software hold an overclock is the 7800 vanilia, the 7800GTX,7900GS & 7900GTX all most be overclocked by flashing the bios only. You can change volts by using NibTor, in TOOLS->Voltage Table Editor. The boot disk has a good selection but not every possible combo. I made my own rewritten bios & nvflash and put it in my C drive, and made my own bootdisk to go to C prompt and flash from there.

Whoa...we don't have too many posts on volt modding the 7900, and I'm not real anxious to be trying this, either! You have made me question whether I did the right thing stopping at 600/700, though...I seem to remember crashing at anything over 600 core, but maybe I'll try to go higher again since you guys are able to push much further...10,000 is still a pipe dream for me, since I haven't seen higher than 9850 or something...maybe the fact that I've tweaked the I8fangui will help...

130 watt adapter

i dont see y i need a 130 watt adapter my laptop full charges to 100% ut i just bough one anyways it charges all the way with a 90 watt so y do i need it?
The power supply is not only to charge your battery, it is a power supply, just like one in a desktop. For example You wouldnt be able to run a 7900GTX SLI desktop card with a 300watt power supply could you? When Nvidia recomends more power, Well a 7900GTX requires a 130w power supply, why do you think XPS M1710 come with a 130w and not a 90w. The 7900GTX uses 45w, The 7900GS uses 20w thats a huge difference.

Oh, here is another example I used my 90w just to see what would happen and ran 3dMark06 and got a score 2106, I put the 130w back on and scored 5723. The 90w just dosent give enough juice to power the card at 100%, I also kept getting errors half way through 3dmark05 with the 90w and would stop responding. Now when i had my 7900GS even when clocked 600\1200, the 90w was enough to power that but that's a whole different card, another reason why the E1705\9400 comes with a 90w. When i had my 7800 vanilia card in my original e1705, i used the stock 90w and the highest i could overclock the card was 375\950 and that was pushing it. When I bought the 130w I was able to clock the card to 450\1200.
