7900GTX/M1710 Overclocking for Idiots Bootdisk Included! *DOUBLE FAULT* Destroyed! - Page 9

Great Post hammermd

Great post hammermd, with the links and explanation, though i flashed in the past it had been a while, googled found this post all in all took maybe 15 minutes. I did the auto overclock it recomended 575by754, flashed straight to 600by700 did auto overclock again it recomends 625 by 754.

Just running ATI Tool arifact tester, i know its not infallable having used it befoore being told no artifacts found but getting lock ups in games. But its still a good first test and am watching temps with precision fan control. peaked at 74 with dells bios controlling the fans. So far no artifacts.

Ran 3dmark05 all default and set at quality with Nvidia 84.63 Drivers, abit spookely, scored exactly 9400 no artifacts.

Ran it again set @ High performance scored 9308 :P

Then again i have run 3dmark in the past a few times over and got that kind of difference without changing any settings.

Will update with further tests.

I would guess that this card might be like my PCIe 7800gtx which has three clocks the core clock and others you could adjust the core clock up say 30mhz without it changing the other clocks and also showing no performance increase, so you set core at 500mhz it was ok but at 501 the other lcoks jumped up about 40mhz then artifacts, just a thought to ponder.

This whole flash thing vs overclock tab is probably a good thing, i remeber a few years back when i was new to it i told a friend about coolbits, when i saw him again he was abit sheepish saying his card was broken he later admitted because the tab offered somthing like 1ghz he wapped it straight up :P he had somthing like ti4200.

Side note, does anybody know if it is possible to OC with clockgen, i guess you might have disable speed step thingy in bios ?

7900 GTX Nvidia 91.48 590/700 OC 3dmark05 = 9706 with High Performance quality setting.

Running 91.48 Drivers and 600/700 I just posted a 9912 score on 3dmark 05.

Will update in a few days with stability.

Thats all ive done, no other mods to lappy, no tweaks.

I just overclock my 7900Go GTX to 600/700 and my idel is about 50C and load is about 75C what is your temp at load? I also have test the ATI Tools for an hour and its has no artifacts but the temp is about 75C.
Mine runs at around 55 Idle and 75 Load, a little higher when I set it on something that doesnt et the bottom breathe(like my bed or couch).

Wow, all I can say is wow. First try, first boot. I tried the 600/700 for starters, not expecting to breach 10k so easily. Only things I did to my normal system operation was to disable antivirus and set the image quality to high performance. Wow!

2001____40,991 (I know, I know, but it's still fun to run it)
2003____22,869
2005____10,263
2006____5,691

Hope these work, never used image shack before.

super pi

Maybe I missed it in this thread or through my searches but does anyone know if/how overclocking effects the power management? Does it:

A) Completely disable it and always run at highest clocks
B) Proportionally effect the powersave clock, if you OC by 10% the powersave clocks are 10% higher
C) Not effect the clocks at all when the card is switched into powersave modes
D) Something else I have not mentioned here

I'm hoping for C

Only 3d rendering clocks are effected. 2d and throttling remain the same at 1.0v

I am super noob. Will this flash work for a 7900GS in my e1705? Do I do all the same things as with the 7900GTX? Thanks

I realize this is old, hey I'm slow, but I got to thinking about this. I have read that the clocks are as below. So would these (presumably 3d clocks) be affected as I asked above or would they remain the same? I understand the 2d part above. But 3d performance is noticable reduced, so I assume that the clocks are reduced as below. Are they also increased accordingly with overclocking or do they just stay the same?

performance 500/600 (or maybe 600/720 at times )
balanced 200/300
power saving 100/110

It doesn't really matter that much, but I'm just curious how it works at this point.

Hi all, I just got the XPS m1710 with a 7950gtx.... and I want to overclock it. Will this work? I tried the boot disc and it just stops at unpack: extracting a;\lib\atapicd.cab

any thoughts apprecitated!

Clocks change for different reasons, for example when just in windows running 2d apps your card clocks itself to the lowest settings 200\300 for example on the stock 7900GTX, when you start playing a game it jumps up to 500\600 mind you that is stock speed, now if for any slim chance your card gets too hot and approached throttlr threshold then it will clock itself down to a lower temp (I have never had it happen on my laptop) my 7800GTX desktop has but i have overclocked the hell out of that card to 490\1350 which is alot for a desktop DELL version 7800GTX, Im lowering it to 475\1333 for now on. And finally you have power saving mode which on mine its set as the same as the throttle. For all who know me on here ya guys know I can get parts and have sold a bunch to people on here, check out orioncomputersinc screen name on ebay this weekend i got a huge order in and i am trying to do everything possible to get dell to let me resell 7950GTX, Theyre hold tough but eventually they will start to. Private message me if you have any questions, thanx!

Figure I'll revive a giant thread rather than create a new one; I've got a bit of a problem, I replaced the internal DVD drive in my box with a second HD and now when I boot to the CD it apparently gets confused and never gets to the R: prompt, I tihnk it can't load the CD driver since it's USB now. I think it ended up with a Q: prompt but I can't remember, I'll check if it's important. Any help is appreciated.

Hrm...I had another CD/DVD slim drive lying around that I would swap out with the 2nd hard drive...you can get them fairly cheap, I think:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...k=&srchInDesc=

I hope the link works...it's from a search page on the www.newegg.com site, though, so try pasting or else just go over there...you're looking at ~$65 or so if you want to keep a spare, swappable, drive around for overclocking purposes or 'just-in-case'...all ya gotta do is shutdown, yank the 2nd HD out and slap in the IDE burner...the BIOS should detect it, and you're off and running.

I'm not a DOS whiz, but there should be a way to FORCE the autoexec or config files on the bootdisc to find your USB drive, which is the alternative...anyone know how to pull THAT one off, and save the guy $65?
or you could just get a $10 flash drive and put all the files on it...

Yeah, that works too, of course...you need the right software to do it, though, and right now I don't have any links saved...anyone have links to the USB flashdrive bootable threads? Do a search, Fry-Man, and you may be able to boot off yer USB flashdrive...I've done it before, but I've not got one around....

There are links in this thread...

Just PM me if any of the links ever stop working

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I still have an internal DVD lying around but the d@mn drive caddy for the 2nd drive is in there so tight I really don't care to dislodge it. I ended up using the instructions from the thread zzpulp linked to and made a USB boot disk that autoexecs the NVFlash, worked like a charm. Got 5315 at 600c700m; I think a 300+ point gain is pretty stout so I'll probably leave it here. Thanks again fr the help.

I know this might be a bit off topic guys, but i spent an hour writing a thread for my Asus A8Js this morning, bookmarked it, visited it later on, all was fine. Visited it an hour ago and my link took me straight to your thread. Bummer!
