Haha, yeah, I like to go up slowly. I don't want to fry the card!!

I am testing 569/731 right now. 5 minutes in ATI tool and so far so good
post #82 of 199
Card has been clocked at 580/700 and is idle at 52 C. Pretty good. Which is weird because I usually idle higher and this is one of the lowest temps I have seen on this card. Im sure it will shoot back up now.

OC'd AT LAST! 91-28 drivers from LaptopVideo2Go.com, OC'd 600\700 with MANY thanks to hammermd's boot files and instructions.
3Dmark05 - 9082 CPU - 5616 46 processes running, with AV, i8kfangui, RMClock, QUALITY settings. 577 over my stock personal best.
3Dmark05 - 9410 CPU - 5568 46 processes running, with AV, i8kfangui, RMClock, PERFORMANCE settings. 328 over QUALITY OC, 1,000 over my normal stock scores.
Large gif snapshot here.

Ok my 3dmark05 scores are fked. I downloaded the following nvidia v91.29 drivers to test out.
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...showtopic=9924

My card was clocked at 580/700 and I had received a score of over 9000 with the XTreme-G MobileForce 91.28-v2.40.

So I ran 3dmark05 and got 7984. So I reset my clocks to the original 500/600 and uninstalled these drivers. I then installed the Xtreme drivers again and ran 3dmark05. I now got 7719 when I should be getting around 8500. WTF?

Now I installed system bios update A01 the other day. Do you think this could have effected the score in some way???

ARGH!

Well it appears something is eating up my cpu usage. I turned off antivirus, closed all open windows (firefox etc.). My cpu usage is at 60% roughly.

With everything closed it used to be at 2%.

Any way to find what is using this?

UPDATE:

Turns out ZCfgSvc.exe (some Intel Wireless crap) was eating up my cpu usage in the background and causing me to have shitty 3dmark scores. Stopped it and scores returned to normal .

Does anyone know who created the original iso rom CD image and if there are other core/memory roms available? I have my best results at 625/725 and the gpu temp only hits 60C under load. There's more room to play here.

M90?

Has anybody tried this on an M90?

I just got a brand new 9400 from Dell yesterday with WUXGA+ and a 7900GS Let me tell ya they made a huge Improvement from the 7800 series. With my 90 Watt Power supply I was able to easily overclock the 7900 to 600 core and 1200 memory, when I used my 130 watt from my E1705 I tried 625 core 1250 memory and I have read people hitting 650/1300 without any other special cooling. For now I’m gonna leave the 90 watt and keep 600/1200 because I need the 130 watt for my E1705/7800GTX. I’ll pick up another 130 sometime next week and try going past 625/1250, the main thing is temps everyone knows the 7900 series yield lower temps but using a 130 watt does bring up temps, even if you use the same voltages and clock speeds! Anyways I broke the 9000+ mark in 3DMark05 my GTX only gets around 7600+ scores.

****7800 Vanilia, 7800 GTX, 7900GS Review For Dell Laptops****

I hope everyone finds this little review helpful! It can give you and idea of what to expect before going out and buying a new CPU or Card. I have 2 New Dells E1705\9400 which i used as control subjects for the tests, enjoy!

These are the best scores I have gotten using different configs and upgrades to try to give everyone an idea of the performance difference between 7800 Vanilia OC w/gtx bios-->"a real"7800 GTX OC-->7900GS OC w/1.24mod. After all upgrading done I have e1705 w/T2600&7900GS and my wife's 9400 w/T2500 &and a real dual pipe 24pp 7800 GTX

CPU/Video card config temps 3dmark05 3dmark06
----------------------------------------------------------------------
T2300 w/7800(450/1200) 93-94 5504 3988
T2500 w/7800(450/1200) 94 6205 4110
T2500 w/78GTX(430/1200) 86-88 7386 4605
T2600 w/79GS(600/1200) 82-86 8967 5035
T2600 w/79GS(625/1250) 88 9104 Never tried
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Higest\Safest Clock that I felt my 9400\E1705 with my real 7800GTX was 430/1200, and the best setting so far for my e1705 w/7900GS is 600/1200, unless someone tries a diffrent volt mod try to get the GS near the 650/1300 range (if possible) I'm staying with it. Before I bought my new laptop I was skeptical about the 7900GS compareing to the 7800 GTX, I was shocked how high it overclocked even with 20pipes it gets 2000 more points than the 7800GTX, I would love to get my hands on a 7900GTX and tinker around with it, but i am yet to even hear let alone see, one for sale by itself. For now I'm very happy with near 9000 point scoring card, My desktop 4400+/1800xtOC gets 9722 in 05' 4783 in 06' So i am extremly impressed with these laptops nearing my desktop in 05' and somehow beating my desktop in 06', now if i can find someone to buy my desktop I'd be even happier to help me get out of debt for buying these 2 laptops,LOL Hope everyone found this helpfull, thanx!

Upgrading again to a 7900GTX

Well I put my 7900gs OC’ed at 600/1200 on sale and just sold this morning, ordered a 7900GTX last night, I can’t wait to see what this new upgrade will do, and this will be the last thing I buy for a while, I had sold my 7800 vanilla to get a 7800 GTX for my girl’s 9400, so I will post some test comparisons. I’m hoping I can get 600/1300 out of this 7900 GTX. Well I will post some scores this weekend.

Personally, i think the benchmark isn't that much of different, but i guess the game that required complex mapping will improve with gtx.

I look at both 7900gs and 7900gtx. they looks the same. they are 800 points difference with ocing.

If you already has 7900gs. i don't think it is necessary to upgrade to 7900gtx
post #96 of 199
that crossed my mind, but i am also future proofing my lappy the upgrade from the GS to the GTX only took $250 because i got my original GS for free, My main attraction was the 512MB of ram which will help when playing at 1920x1200 with AA on. Trust me if the GTX was only 256MB the extra 4PP and only going from 1200Mhz to 1400MHz on the OC of the memory wouldnt of been enough for me to buy it. But i believe I will get my moneys worth of performace.

I play both BF2 with 7900GS and GTX. I don't feel much different.... They are about the same.... Maybe 8 to 10 FPS different....

I do realized the 7.2k HD read the game faster than my old M170's 100GB 5.4k hd. Of course the M1710 runs greater than M170 in both BF2 and CSS under 1920X1200.

BTW, have you realize when running 3DMark05 and 06 the CPU wasn't running at 100%. When I test with M170, the CPU load is 100%, but with M1710 Due core, the CPU load is about 65%. Any idea??
Well Put in the 7900GTX, went easy in unlike putting my 7800GTX in my other 9400 THAT WAS A Pain) Ran 1st test OC'ed to 600/1400 and ran 3Dmark05, Highest temp was only 72'-76' degrees and scored: 8919, strange tho... I was getting 8960 with my GS @ 600/1200 I guess I'll see the differnce in real game play due to the 24pp/8 and 512 MB, I still need to play around with this a bit i guess.

Here are some test compareing which I have done over the past couple weeks (mind you the 7800's are with a T2500, and the 7900's are with a T2600)

7800GO(450\600 1.25v) 3Dmark05 = 6205 Oblivion Higest FPS 17 (med)
7800GTX (430\600 1.3v) 3Dmark05 = 7462 Oblivion Higest FPS 26 (max)
7900GS (600\600 1.24v) 3DMARK05 = 8967 Oblivion Highest FPS 23(med)
7900GTX(600\700) 3Dmark05 = 9640 Oblivion Highest FPS 34(Max)
These are my best 05 scores I did and the best quality settings oblivion auto-set with fPS usinf FRAPS I have owned all 4 cards at a time in my DELLS.
Sold my 7800 Go for $249.95 and Bought a Brand new 7800GTX for $270
Sold my 7900GS single Pipe for $269 and bought New 7900GTX for $499
*Well worth the upgrade for price to performace ratio, I think.
