Hi I just bought my wife the new iMac 17inch and she dosnt know it. I got the basic I life package and photo shop elements. But I I also have a camcorder that is high8 and only has RCA outs. I dont have money to go out and buy a new camcorder at the moment and was wondering if any of you guys could help me with an imput device that goes from rca to firewire or usb.

Thanks Darq

first thing comes to mind that I've used with Mac in the past is the Pinnacle Dazzle line:

Do a search for video capture devices, you will find a LOT of choices, start on the apple website if you want to be sure of connectivity. Also with the iLife suite I would strongly suggest getting a firewire device and not USB, I have no problem capturing with firewire devices, but cant say the same with USB capture devices on the mac. Not to mention I prefer Firewire for AV stuff anyways

Only a true Mac-o-Phile would want an 'RCA to Firewire/USB converter'...Go over to videohelp.com and they have an easily searchable list of Video capture cards. I'm partial to my Hauppauge.

That would be fine and dandy if you could put a video capture card into an iMac. Otherwise I think he's gonna need something else.

Canopus is a pretty respected name, Darq. I didn't look for any prices but here's some of their products: http://www.canopus.com/products/videoconversion.php

Kakaze just because its a capture card doesnt mean its internal. Hauppage for example does make external cards, however I think theirs is a USB if I remember right, but am not sure.

Canopus we have in a Lab I work at. I have had some weird things pop up with it but overall it has been decent. I think ours has developed a sense of taste, the thing refuses to capture a section from Titanic that one student teacher was going to use for something, apparently the movie was just that bad

When I hear "card" I think of something inside the computer. It's not a card otherwise; it's a device.
