Or more specifically.. FX-60 or Pentium 4 3.8?

I plan to essentially play Oblivion totally maxed out, do heavy game design, browse the internet, encode a lot of media, and multitask several of these things. Which would be best? Here's the configuration of each:

Aviator EX7
Airbrush Custom Graphics (High Detail)
Logitech V400/Logitech G15 Keyboard
3.80 Ghz Pentium 4 EM64T
Intel 915P Chipset
4 x 1024MB Mushkin
7900GTX
Built-In TV Tuner
160GB x 2 (320GB Total)

Aviator FX7
AMD Opteron 185
VIA K8T890
2 x 1024MB Mushkin
Everything else SAME as EX7

game design?

When you say game design. What do you mean?
If it's 3d you're talking about, I have a desktop p4 3.73 extreme and the fx64 - 60 beats it. BUT, I do have a nvidia quadro 3400 in the desktop which can push 200000 textured sprite particles around in real time (which the fx7 will not do regardless of processor).
I think the fx64 - 60 is going to be a pretty good option.
Cheers,
Sean.

I dont think you will see very much differeence in acual playing...but with benchmarks...the amd will score highier......I have always found the high end p-4 will do a great job...later on in the last quarter Intel will have something new for gamers and from reports will out due AMD this time..but reports also say amd will catch back up a few months after Intel launches this.......myself I have owned one amd machine.......and after that I will stick with Intel..I have an ex7 comming soon...should have had it already..the wait is killing me...

I'm partial to AMD, but I'm wondering if the ~800 MB of RAM in the EX7 will make a difference (Windows takes 1.2GB. )

I think that the amd will get better benchmarks..but acual usage....I belive the user wouldnt see realy any difference.....It would be great to put those two side by side and be able to use each one...and not have any idea of which is which..I wanted to wait till the last quarter of this year of first of next year for a laptop...there are some things commin down the pipeline from both Intel and AMD.....but if anything...we may be able to upgrade these with new MOBO's and other hardware...wonder the wattage on the pwr supply on these...I am gonna build a killer desktop at the end of this year or first part of next year..this will be my final desktop for at least 5 years.......I am going into the direction of laptops now.....I have plans to start a pc building business..all high end machines...I have just had a building built on my land..nothing spectacular...but 5 people can work comfortably in it....I have to rresearch building laptops....I would love to design my own cases..both laptop and desktop.....I do build ..repair..sell desktops now..not enough to pay all my bills yet so I have to keep mu mining job..but the day will come.......I have built and sold 17 so far this year..thought it was more but after checking 17 is the number...I deliver and set up free within 100 miles of Atlanta..75 miles of Chatanooga....and 50 miles of Gatlinburg / Pidgeon Forge......and 25 miles of Greenville, SC

No, he means that the EX7 can actually support 4GB of memory with ~2.8GB usable since the system reserves 1.2GB of the total memory. The FX7 has only 2 memory slots (EX7 has 4) and supports a maximum of ~2GB.
