5760 memory

Thread Starter
I will be purchasing a 5760 within the week. I plan to equip the computer with 2 GB of RAM.

The price to upgrade from 1 GB to 2 GB from the resellers runs about $160. From newgg, I can get 2 GB of memory for about $180, leaving me with the 1 GB that comes with the machine for resale on ebay. Bottom line, I can save a few bucks.

However, I am concerned about the type of memory to use. I asked the folks at discountlaptops what brand to use and this was their reply:

Apacer. I know it is nothing amazing, but it is what Sager insists on. It will be the DDRII 667MHZ RAM.

Needless to say, this is a no-name brand and is not readily available. So, the question is this: If I buy DDRII 667MHZ memory from a reseller, will it work in the 5760?

I think any quality brand name that meets the OEM specs should be fine. The most important thing is that the RAM matches each other. Maybe you could purchase the unit with a single stick of 1GB RAM and find a matching stick to pair up with it for less money.

You may have trouble down the road with technical support or warranty service if you change out the RAM however.
