My very poor experience with Hypersonic

Thread Starter
I felt the need to post this somewhere, as I feel others should be informed of the lack of professionalisim and issues I had during a recent order to Hypersonic.

Without getting into too much detail, I had the need for a high end laptop and required it in a very short turn around (a week). I ended up settling on a Hypersonic aviator F7 ("prebuilt") primarily because their website (and the customer service) stated that they could ship a prebuilt within 1 - 2 days of the order, great! A powerful laptop that fits my needs in 1 - 2 days, everyone is happy. My troubles began when I tried to place the order online, I went to the prebuilt section where they stated they had a $100.00 off promotion for buying a prebuilt -- I flipped over, speced out a non prebuilt with the exact same configuration only to find it was the exact same price. If I unclicked the "100.00" off option I saw the price on the prebuilt go UP 100.00 (thus more than a custom built laptop then). So I called them up to find out what the deal was, while on the phone they said something to the effect of they found an issue with the website - but they can take my order over the phone; okay great. Place an order around 4 or 5 PM on Monday, confirm it will ship either Tuesday (1 day) or Wednesday (2 days) - the answer is yes. I choose ground shipping because of my proximity to their shipping location, ground will only take 2 days. Thus - if it shipped wednesday I would get it Friday. Tuesday comes around, no email - no status change (in fact the order didn't even show up) so I get in touch with them, they state it will go out on Wednesday - and my order then shows up in the system. Wednesday comes around, no info - contact, they blow me off until around 5:00 (when they close) when I called back and they said that it actually won't ship on wednesday.. that it would ship thursday.. so I tell them that I have to have the laptop by the end of the week, are they going to upgrade the shipping to ensure it gets here on time? I get a "I think we can do that" response (not very reassuring) but they'd get in touch with me on thursday. Thursday rolls around, nothing. I call them - they state it actually won't go out on thursday so it'll have to go out on Friday and that they can cut me a deal on shipping, only 20.00 more instead of 40 - I explained that it isn't my fault they didn't ship when they promised, so they said they'd pick the bill to have it delivered on saturday, ok well that is past when I really wanted it but I can get it saturday and still meet my deadlines for what I needed for. So I call friday at 4:30 to get a tracking number, as it hasn't showned as shipped.. get a voicemail - call back at 5:00 (right when they are closing) get put on hold for about 10 minutes and then the person comes back only to tell me that some card reader isn't working and thus they can't ship it today. So I cancelled my order.

I got screwed by putting my faith in broken promises from this company, which is really sad.

I hope others have better experiences.

If I end up getting another one like this one, I'll get it from pro-star, they have the same price basically (www.pro-star.com) and it is the same computer... the only difference is they don't have the accidental damage protection, but after dealing with hypersonic through the order process and lies, I can only image how big of a pain in the ass it is to get something fixed with them. BTW - I went back and checked my credit card, and they had charged it the day of order - so the "card reader isn't working" excuse was crap come friday. Good luck - let me know what you end up doing!

HyperSonic charges the credit card the day the order is placed (NOT shipped) irregardless of wait time. I don't really agree with this approach, but it is the way many companies handle credit card transactions.

well honestly they have to do that..if they biiled it after they built and shipped it..there is always a chance the card may not have enough money on it......In my opinion they need to improve customer relations.......its not a good practice to tell someone several times that they are gonna do something at a certain date or time and then to only nit follow thru several times......if a problem arises customer support should contact the buyer via phone and e-mail and give the customer a reason for the delay,,when I had my business there were times I couldnt deliver when promised and as soon as I would realize something like this I would call and apologize to the customer and give them the reason for the delay....I find this practice is far better than to just ignore the customer or keep putting the date back several times...this will tend to make a customer angry and they may not become repeat customers...and you also have to remember about word of mouth ...it can make or break a company..even if you have a billion dollar advertising campaign going on.......situations like this is why I am no longer a long time Dell customer...my problem with them wasnt customer support but was in tch support.....I just need to knoiw the ship date so I can arrange to be here or have the wife here to sign for it...last week she put off alot of things to stay home and wait for the laptop....I am not anry as of yet...but if it continues I wont always have that southern gentlemen charm whil dealing with this situation..

Actually they don't have to actually charge and bill the card. Most companies only run the card with an authorization hold so that when the product ships, the amount will have been held so there will not be a problem when it is actually billed. Getting an authorization hold and billing the card are 2 totally different things.

On that note, in either manner in the USA, if HyperSonic does not deliver the product within 30 days OR notify the customer about the wait and ask for permission to continue to the order, the consumer has the right to cancel and expect a full refund.
cool...well I gues they get the money so it can gain interest in their account....on the 30 day deal...its going on 23 days ...I dont want to cancell...I just want the laptop or a decent truthfull explanation of why its delayed and an honest answer on when it will ship..right now the same exact machine sells for over 200 bucks less.....thats half a paint job...if I could only acess my account online...I hate to have to call them every day............I sure hop its worth all this
post #8 of 20
I just checked my account online and it listed all of my past orders in a nice new Order Listing. Although they are all currently shown as "shipped," it does seem they have a nice, new detailed order status system.

As far as price differences, I can understand why HyperSonic does not offer price reductions because they actually do reserve all of your components at the time of order. This usally applied more for painted systems which have a lengthy window of waiting. Non-painted systems usually ship quickly within a week from most reported instances, unless a component is backordered.
thats one reason why I opted to noy have the paint job..and its going on 3 weeks now.if I orderedthe same system today it would cost over a 100 buycks less with a better video card and 200 bucks less with the same video card..its like I would be better off canceling and re-ordering..I could get more....better video card...and a second iptical drive ...all for the same money...I am calling them tuesday morning andwill discuss the options..if it would have shipped last week no problem.....but now I sort of feel like I am being cheated.....I know its not the case.. but thats how it feels.....specialy because they had promised 4 times it would shop by last friday

What is their reason for the delay? There is absolutely no reason a non-painted system should be taking 3+ weeks if there are no component shortages.
thats just it.....I was never givin a reason..wdnesday I was told it was being benchmarked and would go out friday..I cant acess any info online..I didnt use a credit card..I did a direct wire from my money market account right into their account..they had my money in less than 5 minutes.....I have called them every day last week..with the same answer..first is was suppose to ship tuesday...then wednesday...than finaly thursday but friday for sure...no reason was givin for the delay...I have been real calm and havent complained on none of the calls so far...but my patients is getting thin......I paid $3828.34 WITH OVERNIGHT SHIPPING

that with the newer 7900gtx and still overnight delivery...for the same thing I had ordered it would be $200 bucks less than what I paid.....

I guess there are still quirks to work out with the new online order status. Hopefully, you will get answers tomorrow and your new notebook this week.

spoke with alison twice today...she said everything looks great and it should ship wednesday (tommorrow), when I explainde how for the same amount I realy could get a slightly better viseo card...she sad she would ship it overnight,,I said thats cool because I paid for overnight..lol....she then said whe would throw in a carring case...........now thats cool.....I was gonna have to buy one anyway...so if nothing happens and it goes out tommorrow I will be very happy think I will go to game spot and see what new games they have...I still want to load COD2 and far cry and play those on it..set all ing ames settings on high...the laptop is a little above my desk top and it handles those games on high and wont skip a beat..so this should do better......oh and I can finaly access my online account..thats cool also...I feel better.......

http://www.resellerratings.com/selle...1.html#reviews

again I would like to stress thats its not the delays that have me agravated...its being told lies...for 5 days in a row I have been told next day...next day...well if its gonna be next week I should get the 7900gtx card...I wont even worry about the extra 100 bucks I paid fo that..it beats 200 bucks extra...that and tell me when it will ship..if the system is having alot of problem,s let me know what it is..I am 48 years old and run the electrical/electonics dept at an underground mining company and I understand when things go wrong..plus I have owned my own business in the past and sometimes things go wrong..plus I am starting up a High end ganing pc desktop business..starting small right now......I was raised in southern tradition and a persons word is something I dont take lightly...I wont give my word unless I can follow thru..and if I give you my word you can bank on it..I will do whatever it takes to keep my word..after all its realy all a man has thats realy his own.

I realy want this system but I want the promises stopped if they aint gonna follow thru....
sorry yall I had to let all that out..what gets me ...its a plain jane case...no paint no graphics...I still have all my emails from them and on the 19 was told it was about to ship...sounds like they are having alot of problems with this system..what else could be the delay....I didnt bother them one time untill I got the email saying it was about to ship......a good posability that I could direct many new laptop customers to them..no desktop ones..sorry..I keep them for myself...laptops are just to much of a hassle for me to build and deal with..I have repaired a few but realy dread working on them...I like to take a side off and have all that room to work with a gaming desktop offers....

I don't think you made the wrong decision. The waiting does suck and on my last system, I had some issues that cropped up towards the end of testing that delayed mine. My delays were due to a hard drive that was acting up (the replaced it) and then found dead pixels on the screen (I requested no dead pixels). For the specific resolution I was getting, they kept getting dead pixels and there was a delay in getting replacements.

So during the discussion with them, it was asked if I wanted to go to the higher resolution as it will allow it to ship immediately after install and testing. I ended up going that route. I am one of those who can't use the high resolutions anyways because the text/icons are just too small for me. So I knew I was going to lower the resolution anyways. But... I was getting the system.

That being said - if they are finding problems now and delaying it because of that, then definitely a 100% benefit for you. This way, you don't get something that dies when it arrives. Thus the reason I like the 72 hour burn-in process they have. As for the reasons for the delays - I can't address them. Hopefully once the system arrives, the heartache you have now will quickly disappear.

Not to offend someone that I don't remember right off or misrepresent their impressions, but with the small precentage of Hypersonic owners in the forums here and two of us (Dennis and I) are repeated buyers, there is something to say about the equipment. If I was stationed in Europe and making that good money (since my housing was paid for), there may have been a fourth system bought this summer (since it was my normal May thing). Then again, I would still have my EX7.... sniff sniff...

Good luck - and I hope things work out and your system ships!
I have had delays with both my current EX7 and EX6 that have been documented. In any case, it is always well worth the wait in the end. Before I got painted systems, I would not accept any wait longer than a few days for a notebook. The paint and HyperSonic notebooks in general have taught me how to deal with one of life's greatest virtues

I got it today..I understand delays...belive me I have to explain them to the mine manager at work..what made me angry was I was told everything was good to go and it would ship the next day..this was told to me for a week ......they should have explained that they are behind because they need more builders and it will be at least another 7-10 days..I would have been disapointed but not angry..but anyway...If it performs like I hope I probably will send it back for a paint job..but bad news.....I havent been able to use it yet...durring windows registration..it fouind a bad or corrupt file...........well then it locked up...and after I shut it down via the button all it would do is reboot.....well I am in the act of reformationg it now..thank god I had a usb floppy for the wifes qosmio I bought her last christmas..................well I will let yall know what I think when I do get it up an running..man this realy puts the icing on the cake.....

Like I have stated many times in the forums, HyperSonic's preload (and recovery DVD) are almost always poorly done. If you want the system to function cleanly and flawlessly, you should format the drive, install OS, and then follow the driver installation exactly as it is detailed in the user manual.

I am very satisfied with Hypersonic.....this is n aewsom laptop.....I would just suggest that when a customer cals to see when it will ship, instaed of saying it will go out tommorrow or the next day...they tell the customer that due to increased sales and the time they take to insure a machine is at its best and the fact they have opoenings for techs...that shipping is behind sched. and probably will be delayed for another week....and could call back then to see what the staus is...and if it does ship before that week..hey you feel like you got it early......from what I see from this EX7 its a fine machine..very fast.....PC Pistop scores it right there with my XPS Generation 4 dsktop....I mean less than 100 points seppluerate them....and my XPS HAS 2 10,000 rpm raptors configured RAID 0...both have 7800 cards..XPS has a 7800gt overclocked from BFG and this one has the 7800go card...so ou do the math...yes this machine is awesome......
