Hello,
as I'm waiting for my new delll i8600,
I'd like to know which are the best steps to have a hassle-free system:
I've heard rumorus about uninstalling one of the dell's softwares, and upgrading some bios/drivers?
and are the latest omegacorner's drivers a good choice?

thanks guys!

ati radeon 9600 128Mb

I'm getting mine tomorrow, however the very first thing I intend to do (after wiping the drool off the floor at the WUXGA screen *lol*) is to format, repartition, and install XP Pro... and maybe Gentoo Linux, but that isn't a high priority at the moment.

hmmm
I'll keep xp home on mine, but I might repartition and reinstall it.
I've been told to uninstall one of the dell software (something movie... don't remember)...
because it makes the system instable.

also wondering what drivers to install in case of reinstalling win xp home

cheers

Well, you'll obviously need video card drivers, network drivers (for the wireless), probably a driver for the Dell LCD, since it isn't exactly a standard resolution having a 16:10 aspect ratio. As far as I know though, all the relevant drivers come on a cd with the laptop.

Don't forget to run Windows Update after reinstalling as well, gotta get all those damn Microsoft security updates

format it, download all drivers before hand from dell, use omegas for your video card, just got mine and it rocks, and i did a frsh install before even using it for a hour... i love it! same setup as yours too!

Erik - Did you call your bank before making the purchase? ON a purchase of that size, they will jump through all sorts of hoops to sort it out. A single call to your bank notifying them that you plan on making a purchase of XXXX amount and it'll be smooth sailing. I do that everytime I spend over a grand.
