This thread suggests i might screw up my system (probably unable to boot...).
However, there is no warning saying it must not be installed on a non-SATA system.
Anyone already updated from a 3cxx to 3f07 without ending up with a unbootable system or something like that?
It mostly likely is for SATA model and you have PATA one (I have PATA too). You may try to update BIOS or at least select it from within WinPhlash utility. See if it complains at that point: it should verify that new BIOS is "compatible" with the model of laptop. Although it may not know about any distinctions between PATA and SATA models.
I suggest creating a bootable flash drive with a DOS-mode phlash.exe, copy of current BIOS, and batch file to load it. You should be able to boot from flash drive even if new BIOS renders HD inoperable. Verify that you can boot from flash first before proceeding. Other than HD, there should not be any other incompatibilities.
Note, that above is a 'theory.' No warranties of any kind, YMMV, do it at your own risk, etc.
