In terms of styling, or overall?

I prefer the 5000 overall - the specification seems to be much better. The 1000 has much more attractive, somewhat understated styling though.

Interesting to see the HDMI port. I hope they make a HD-DVD or Bluray drive for the 8204...

lol I don't think the 1000's mouse is that good looking. Looks too blocky. But I like the laptop itself though. Too bad its only a 12 inch screen...

how much is 1.7 in pounds? how much does the Ferrari 1000 weigh? I am in the market for a 12 inch laptop.. the Sony Vaio SZ is WAY too expensive ($2700) and looking at the Dell XPS M1210, but I am curious about this as well.. none of the websites seem to have ANY info on the 1000, its all about the 15 inch model...

1.7 kilo is about 3.7 lbs. That's....really light though. R u sure you have the numbers right?
Yeah, that is what I have been reading on all of the websites..so I would guess around 4.5 pounds with a mega fat battery, etc etc when it is all said and done..

My NEC Versa TXi was 3.5 pounds with the battery installed, and the DVD drive removed / replaced by a blank to protect the bay. That was with a supposedly magnesium alloy body and a 12.1" LCD display - and technology from 2001.

3.7 pounds is certainly quite feasible with 2006 technology.

OSNN.net has posted seven pics and a rather shaky video of what they claim to be one of only ten Ferrari 5000 notebooks in existence so far:

Neowin.net also saw the same notebook, which is being shown around by AMD's Chris Aarons. They posted five pics:

Hi there,

Many thanks for all the pics and info.

I've been looking, it seems to me that there isn't a DVI out on the 5K? Or are my eyes lying to me?

All the best

Nope, they replaced the DVI with an HDMI connector with HDCP, allowing you to play HD-DVD movies from your laptop on your HDTV in full resolution, and with only one cable.

An HDMI connector is basically a DVI connector with audio as well, and so you can use an HDMI to DVI cable to connect an HDMI device to a DVI monitor - no conversion required.

Many thanks for the replys.

Was worried I'd be having to ditch the F-20 monitor. Sounds like I'm safe on that one.

All the best

Rich

grrrrrrrrrrrrr according to the new pics it has an ATi board, which means it'll more than likely have the x1600, I was really hoping for the off chance that it would get the 7900 GS, oh well a boy can dream.

It has the X1600, we've been saying that all along.

I know, and I knew it was going to before there was a press release, but I just had this little beam of hope when acer didn't specify what video card at the press release.

Any idea if the 1000 will have an HDMI port too. It doesn't matter too much, b/c if I get the 1000 it will just be for portability and I will get a desktop to hook-up to my 42" LCD. BUT, I wouldn't mind being able to hook the 1000 up to my TV also.
