The blank media will be expensive, you'll need a standalone player for your tv which will be priced through the roof. That's just my opinion, I would stick with the DVD drive and by the time you need HD-DVD it will be time for a new laptop anyways.

Well, If you already have a HDTV, it'll save you having to buy a stadalone player. I just had a chance to play with the new Aspire 9800 (the thing is huge, don't even think about carrying it around) with the HD-DVD yesterday and we had it hooked up to a Dell 2407 and the Last Samurai HD-DVD really looks great at 1920x1200.

The card is already over half a year old. I'm usually an ATI guy but the Geforce 7600 has gotten better benchmarks than the X1600. I guess its not Acer's fault ATI didn't get a newer card out in time that would fit into the Ferrari 5000. I just can't spend $2500 knowing that the Video Card isn't going to last long. Toshiba has out 17" gaming laptops that weigh 0.5 lbs more than the Ferrari so it's still a portable gaming laptop in case anyone was looking for one but didn't want to carry a 9lb Dell.
