emachine M6811 Power on problem

I have a problem that I think some of you might find newbish.

My labtop is being a real hassle to turn on. No indicator lights would come on when it's plugged into the wall, and nothing would happen when I press the power button. The battery won't power the labtop on in this condition either.

However, this all changes when I take my labtop from it's side and hit it against a table with moderate force. When I do this, I can power up the labtop normally and the AC power LED's and etc... all show.

When I disconect everything from my labtop and move it to a different location, I have the same problem and I can't power it on. Oh also, if I tap the labtop while it's on, it has a small chance of shutting off.

I have seen guides that instruct how to open up my labtop. I'm confident I can get it open by following the instructions.

Does anyone have any suggestions to what I should be looking for or any theories to what the problem is? My warranty has expired and E-machines thinks that my motherboard is fried and wants to charge me 244$ to replace it. I told them the exact same story i'm telling you guys....

ur mother is not fried but ur power plug input might be - so $244 for a mobo is a cheap and simple way for the service peoples to fix ur problem, w/o digging in too much to look for the problem source.

disassemble ur mobo and look around the power plug area for hair line crack? solder spot loose?

cheers ...

I have looked all over the net for an assembly guide for the M6811... I have found a way to disasemble the labtop for the purposes of upgrading the internal ram and such. But the guides stop there. I dont' know how to clear the rest of the components so I can get to the area where the POWER connects to connectors to check if they're lose/faulty etc...

ANyone know of a guide? I unscrwed everything that seems unscrewable but i couldnt' get anything inside to move lol

I'm having the exact same problem, except mine won't turn on at all, though I've not banging it against anything (Seems the if it's a crack on your mobo, that might be somewhat counter productive).

Regarding your trouble disassembling, if you've not done it yet, you have to unmount your LCD hinges; there are 4 screws underneath it that hold the back of the casing together. Beyond that, I don't really know since mine came apart pretty easily once those were taken out.

Good Luck and let me know of your progress since we share the same affliction.

Sounds like the power plug issue. Either the plug is broken... the pins on the side loosen up after some time, or bad solder point. In order to check that you would have to take out the motherboard completely. Lots of screws.
