Help choosing laptop

Hello,
Im a little lost about what to buy, i want to change my desktop with a laptop, this is my desktop specs:

AMD 2000+ (1.6ghz) with 512mb RAM, gforce with 128mb and 120gb HD.

I will use the laptop to listen to music, see/burn dvds, programming (IDE Eclipse), internet/msn (wifi) and maybe play quake3 .

I want a portable laptop to take to my friends home. I though about a dell dell 710m (2.0ghz, 1gb, 80gb) but it have old hardware and maybe with the same money i can buy something better.

Like i said first, im lost!!!.

Well, thats all, i will apreciate your help and sorry about my english :P.

I think it would help if you stated your budget - are you looking for one under $1000 or $1000-$1300?

Im reading the forum and i cant choose a notebook!, i like the dell 6400, but i dont know if this will be portable, i really like the 710m, but will be the screen to small to program or browse?.

Btw, no one is coming to Argentina?, bringing the 710m from USA to my country cost me like 1500u$s lot of money for a laptop with old hardware :S.

Va a dell.com y "configure" un E1705 o E1505. Si utilizas un cupón, puedes recibir $750 cuando compras un laptop por mas que $1999. Mira el "<a href="http://www.notebookforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=104">Notebook Deals and Coupons</a>" forum para encontrar el cupón.

I'm not sure if my spanish is good (because I'm Vietnamese), so here it is in english - go to dell.com and configure an E1705 or E1505 so that it costs $1999 or more. You can find the coupon here: <a href="http://www.notebookforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=104">Notebook Deals and Coupons</a>

Just apply the code once you've finished configuring the laptop, and it'll take $750 off of the price. If you want to play a lot of games, I'd say go with the E1705 because you can get the nvidia 7800/7900 with it.

Hey!, great spanish =), good work, i think that in argentina there is not cupons...

Today I called to dell argentina asking for the 710m, and they told me that it was discontinued and will be replaced with the m1210 () and it will be at almost the same price than the 710m (here... the 710m $3700 and the m1210 will be 3900$ (pesos, 1 US dollar = 3.06 pesos), or something like that, the girl was not sure.

So, what about alllllll this?, i think that i will get more money and i will buy the m1210 =) and if this is too expensive i will go for a e1505.
