USB Ports on 7405gx

I know I saw a post concerning USB ports but did not recall where. If this is a repeat topic, please forgive me. Are the USB ports on the left side stronger or different than the two in the back? Reason I ask is - last year when I purchased these (looks very mad b/c of the $$ spent) non-working (today) Altec Lansing XT1's, they only played in either back port. A year later (they've been global hopping w/o me sadly) and they don't work at all. I have no warranty on them since I purchased them 3/05. AL has not responded to my email.

Suggestions??

PS - the AL's aren't working on the PC either. All systems see them but no sound is coming out of them.

:-) no one has yet to prove, scientifically, that usb ports differ depending on their position on the laptop. Bad port, may be :-)

in general i found out that amd/xp powenow/battery management is the culprit for many non-working usb-powered devices.

it sounded like that ur AL internal amplifier has taken a dive

cheers ...

qhn - thanks loads for answering. I just sent my second email off to AL. But not prior to this part. I went on AL's site and clicked registration (for some unknown reason) to happily see that they give you an extra yr warranty just for registering online. So, I actually have more warranty than I realized as it will end in 3/07 instead if they hold up their end of the deal. We shall see...

I love those lil speakers. So portable and so easy to use.

Back to the USB ports, good to know as I am a new laptop owner. I know I plugged in something on the (front) desktop and and a pop-up told me to use another set on the back for optimum performance of whatever it was I was using. Thought this might be the case on laps as well.

Happy Holiday!!

this is the case when u have BOTH 1.1 and 2.0 USB, or when u only have 1.1 & the external device is 2.0
