HELP! Acer Travelmate 8204 vs. Ferrari 4005/4006

I am a student attending virginia tech in the fall and have been researching laptops for the last few months, reading countless reviews. I've narrowed it down to two Acers: the travelmate 8200 and the ferrari 4000. From what i've read the travelmate is cleary the faster one, with double memory and 256mb of video. They both look very good, but the ferrari has the clear advantage on the style, it'd be great to pull that thing out and others "ooo" and "ahh" at it. Also, from the reviews i've read, the travelmate seems to have alot more bugs with it, including boot probelms, dark corners with the screen, and other complaints.

So ferrari has the style and seemingly less problems; travelmate has all out speed. WHICH DO I CHOOSE! i'm tired of reading about them, i want to make my decision and order one!

You could always wait for the Ferrari 5000 and have the best of both worlds

I just heard of the Ferrari 5000 today, which sounds like the perfect machine. Two problems: 1) i need the laptop by august 16th, which is the virginia tech move-in day, and since i've seen no release date yet that makes me think it wont be for awhile and 2) when laptops first come out they are always very expensive, taking a short while to go down. My budget is approx $2000.

Thanks for the reply, and if you have any information to when the 5000 is coming out, i'd greatly appreciate it

They're speculating that Acer will be officially announcing the 5000 at Computex, which takes place on June 6th. I'd expect the 5000's to become available shortly after that.
