My battery is making screaming noises!

hehe!
I just got to work and noticed my beautiful I9400 is crying!
When the power cable in connected it's making this sharp, screaming like sound constantly, if I remove the cable it stops, or if I remove the battery with the cable still attached, it stops.
Anyone have any idea what this might be a symptom off?
Thanks

Use the search function you insensitive cloth!!
http://support.euro.dell.com/support...=no&l=no&s=gen

"The level of the noise is within the acoustic specifications of the notebook and well below other noises from components such as the system fan and the hard disk drive."

Someone even posted a solution

That post should be stickied!

Anyway, that settles that then, crank up the volume and enjoy!

A "whistling" sound not unlike the one you're describing sounds like a capacitor that will eventually burst. A battery doesn't have capacitors in it *per se*, but the cells ARE essentially the same thing. It sounds to ME like one of them is straining under the pressure of being exposed to 120V DC.

I'd contact Dell and tell them you need a new battery. Also, check your battery's model number on THIS website: https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/

You'd almost be SURE Dell would've purged these POS batteries out of the system by now....but you can't be TOO sure, and even so, there are always lemons of any part.

...lol I hope to god my laptop doen't need 120v DC Sounds more like a cap in the charging circuit to me....It's never easy to remote diagnose noises. I would suggest you contact Dell & keep your battery out of the laptop unless you really need it... Not sure what the power brick puts out on the 9400, but I'm sure it's around 19v-while charging...If you have the small battery it's prolly pulling around 30 watts @ 50% battery while charging (my 1710 is 19.1v/draws around 40 watts at 50% battery while charging under windows with minimal load) -As a quick check you might want to verify your power brick is putting out the rated voltage...There is always a possibility it's the problem .
