Task Manager

I just realized that when I ctrl + alt + delete the task manager shows up without a menu bar, or whatever the bar with the minimize/maximize/close buttons on it. It's just a box. that lets me end tasks. I can't switch between stuff running and processes or anything like that either. The only way to close it is alt +f4 also. What's the problem??

Have you recently run a program such as CCleaner? My son did just a few days ago and had a similar problem. Something was deleted (not sure exactly what) which caused certain tabs, buttons, etc, to turn up missing. He ran his Windows disk and repaired the OS which solved his problem.

As I mentioned, my son used his Windows disk to repair the OS. You might try System Restore, TMJ. That would be an easier fix, but it never seems to resolve problems for us, though.

A simpler solution would be to just double click the grey border portions of Task Manager.

Damn, Revenent, I wonder if something as simple as that would have solved my boy's problems? Good post.

Don't worry, it's a common problem.

In fact, there's actually a KB article for this exact issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314227/en-us
