I think I am going to cancel my order

People, I have been reading user reviews on cnet about the 8600, and it ain't good. I am going to sleep on it tonight and make a decision tommorrow. There are a lot of unhappy people there and other places regarding ths notebook. flimsy... lots of plastic... poor performance.... poor quality... crappy touchpad... all seem to stand out a lot. And yes, the poor customer support is the #1 gripe, which I have already experienced first hand. I do NOT NOT NOT want a notebook that is going to be in the trash in a year. Anyway... just some thoughts.

erik, i haven't recieved my 8600 yet, so I can't speak from personal experience, but there are alot of happy people out there who own these 8600's as well. Try to balance out the positives and the negatives, though from what I've read, I seem to like this Notebook alot.

You can read the negative reviews for yourself. It only got a 67% user approval rating.

I think I may just buy another Sager

It seems to me there are a lot of people happy with this laptop and a lot of people unhappy with it. I think many people expect perfection when they buy a laptop, hell, I am one of them, if I shell out over 2 grand I want somthing thats friggin nice. The 8600 is my first experience with owning a laptop, my brother has an I8100 and the only problem hes had is the dvd player sucks. I for one like my 8600, other than the screen problems its a nice machine and the screen problem isnt really that huge, but like I said I want this to be worth the price I paid for it.

People are always going to expect somthing and not get it or gripe about somthing etc... but you really have to look at the positive and negative, there is nothing out there that is perfect, you just have to find somthing thats close to it that fits your own personal taste.

I am giving Dell one more chance to make my monitor right, if they dont do it im sending it back, thats all there is to it.

i agree with natedog, as I should recieve my new lappy either today or tomorrow, I will then be able to tell you what I personally think. the reviews at cnet are awfully scary, but reviews that i've read everywhere else seem to be fantastic in most cases.

I'll make my own mind up and if not happy, i'll do like ever other completly unsatisfied customer does, and send it back.

I don't know, I suppose I am expecting alot... and I am. My old sager was built like a brick sh*thouse. I can't tolorate "flimsy" computer stuff. Maybe I am being over reactive, because I can really be bad that way when it comes to large amounts of money. its just that dell has a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE reputation for making cheap stuff and having zero customer support.

just take a chill pill and sleep on it like you said.....i believe you also called yourself neurotic, so don't stress

I just can't tolorate companies making sh*tty stuff and making us spend sh*tloads of money for it.

well I don't totally think that DELL is that lousy a company, as we're always purchasing the new dimensions, optiplexs and we just bought a bunch of the d600 latitudes and they are great.

Hey I mean I like mine.

I have no performance problems the screen is great.
The touch pad is one of the better ones I have used tack on a Bluetooth mouse and your golden.
The plastic does have a bit of give but other than that it’s fast and quiet.
But that could be just me.
However my wife has one to and it runs just as well.

And if you dont like it in the first 30 days send it back most it will cost you is shipping or nothing if shipping was included.

Its a refurb, so it will have to be returned within 14 days
post #15 of 54
well make sure you test it quick then

First thing is to trust your gut. If think this thing is going to be a lemon then X your order.

However take those bad reviews for what they are. Most the time you only see the bad post, this forum is not the norm.

I really like my 8600 however as you know the screen is an issue. Dell also sell alot and I mean alot of volume. So they get more reviews.

When you spend alot you tend to have that buyers remorse, should have could have, what if.......

I got my 8600 thru SB and the Dell CS has been quick with getting the screen out, have had no other problems or complaints but it could be diff with yours.

Everything you said is true to some point, but I have not used a lappy that did not have one problem or another. I have used a Pany Toughbook for a year or so and have had many little probs with it.

If it does not feel ok, the cancel it and wait. The new dell could be great

Yeah, like one day.
Personally I would run it for and hour or two with the pre loaded stuff then dump it and reload with a clean install. Then you got a couple days to play with it clean and tweaked.
That’s what I did however make sure you download and burn the drivers for the wireless and the network card as when I got mine those drivers were not yet on the driver disk.

Well, with the 14 day return policy, in reality I have about one day to play with it. Keep in the mind day number 1 is the day of the invoice, then, you have to account for transit time (up to 5 days), that leaves 9 days, then you have to factor in that it will take at least five days to get support from dell to get the return approved. So really, its like one day... maybe 2 if I am lucky.

They don't have to have by the end of the 14 days, you just need to have started the return proc.
