wrt54g v5 winamp problem!

i know i know, this is a notebook forum. this is one of the bigger forums im involved in so i figured id give you guys a shot at my problem.

i have: i6000 with 2200, wr54g v5 (yes i know), and winamp v5.2

even using windows media player radio stations, or winamps (preferred player), the music is choppy. it has to buffer after mear seconds of pushing play, and eventually becomes unplayable. help! i have an adelphia 4000/500ish connection hooked into a surfboard 5250/5300? then running to the linksys. im pretty sure its a router problem, because ive eliminated the router and it is fine. but i want the wifi, and of course need the router for that one. the internet surfing on the routher IS ALWAYS fine. no speed degregation or anything.

so basically i need some help guys with this router. i would love for my online music to play all day, and not annoy me after 5 seconds enough to shut er down!!!

Theres an issue with that entire line of routers especiialy if you got the ones past V4 because of the castrated options. You have to call linksys and they will send you a refurbed v4 router which is what they did for me. I loaded a custom linux system onto it and all my problems went away.

since posting i put the v5 on ebay. maybe itll sell.

question, the wrt54g GL/GS, are better? like i wont have this problem?

i really love using winamp. and was a little mad when that didnt work. i tried WMP, and found that too to do the same thing (eliminated a program/software issue).

i dont wanna spend more than 70$. any recommendations besides the linksys stuf?

Yes, Linksys switched to the VxWorks OS on the WRT54G v5. The v4 or older used Linux.

The WRT54GL is essentially the WRT54G v4 but with a different model number. the L is for Linux. So you can still buy the Linux routers, just at a $15 premium. I run HyperWRT on my v4 and it's been running for almost 3 months straight.

Heh i remember like a year ago i tried to upgrade the bios in a v2, it didnt flash correctly and ended having to short some pins in the chip to make it work again. Almost ended with a 70$ doorstop

also messes with torrent downloads or any other p2p service. V4 or below is what you need and as evil says you can still buy the linux version at a premium of course.

You can't mod the GS anymore either, the v5 WRT54GS switched to new hardware and VxWorks. Also, the GS is worthless unless you're running all speedbooster adapters. The GL is where its at.

I have the GS v4 I got the GS because they come with stronger antennaes but as Evil mentioned without an accomodating adapter the extra "speed" is useless
