Speaking of which, it's "out for delivery." I will be heading home early today. I'll post some type of review and/or pics this week.

Ordered last Tuesday, delivered today (and UPS ground too).
I would say two factors. One is what is shipped. I didn't get anything besides the system. But if you order various accessories, they add up. Secondly may be the packaging. This may vary based on the shipping method and agent.

My system weighed about 4 2/3 lb and the package was 11. Figure a pound or two for the charger, CDs, and manual, and the packaging weighs 4-5 lb.

Is it normal when the laptop was shipped on the 14th of September in U.S. Nashville that it'll arrive about this Thursday-Friday from Purolator to Vancouver?

I'm being a little impatient here.. I can't wait. I hope it won't get delayed till next week.

Dell messed up the shipping address I gave them. Since I live 40 kilometers south of where I work, I gave them my work address as the ship to. Well, they put my home address but the ship to postal code. Because of that the courier held it at the depot and I was able to pick it up, so it's hard to complaint too much.

In any case, everything seems to be okay. I haven't had much time to do more than boot it up and do a basic inspection. And I have to go to work soon

I did get all of the CDs as far as I know. There's a Windows XP Pro CD (the special Dell version). The Driver and Utilities CD, and a number of others.

For those who case, the package weighed 11 pounds and the M1210 itself was 4 pounds 9 3/4 ounces. That's without the charger/adapter. I have the 6 cell battery. And it came charged!

The screen is quite nice. I haven't had time to check what kind it is or test it. The keyboard will take a bit of getting used to. The keys seem to be riding high and have quite the play individually. But I don't think there's anything specifically wrong with them. Looking forward to cleaning it up and trying Oblivion.

Where is it being shipped? Sounds about right.

Mine was shipped from the States as well on Sept 13 but I don't know exactly from where. It cleared customs in Toronto and then headed to Ottawa. I picked it up yesterday from the depot. Not bad for ground and having to clear customs.

Will do, although you may be ahead of me. Work is going to interfere with getting things set up. What I'm hoping to do is load Oblivion once I do a basic overview of the system and make sure everything's there and working. This will be a quick look see because I'm impatient. Later, when I re-load/re-build from scratch, I'll re-load Oblivion and start tweaking. I've pulled down the tweak guides from www.tweakguides.com and am interested to see how far I can get.

Finally received my M1210 and I'm amazed at how good the VGA output is. It's indistinguishable on my Dell 2405FPW compared to my M1710 running DVI.

Extremely pleased indeed with this laptop - considering how much of the internals must be occupied with the DVD-RW drive alone, it's a beautiful design.

My only wish is that a) it has a proper 16:9 display rather than 16:10 and b) the bezel around the screen wasn't quite so thick.

Battery life alone is breathtaking compared to my M1710, getting on for four hours with the screen at half-brightness.

Moved to a separate thread - Sept 22, 2006.

best of it all, i dont have ANY dell crapware installed, just one roxio dvd burning program. I guess they select country (im in india) and install crapware accordingly

the machine is sweet, superPI gives me 1m 15secs on a 1.83 c2d. great system.

With every Dell computer, I download the latest drivers and put them on my thumbdrive and wipe the computer. Works a lot better than removing the crap which still leaves the system slower than just having a fresh OS.

just a slight problem.

even after messing with the brightness/contrast im not able to get perfect black. there is always a white shade on the black color. Is it due to the glossy screen? (i have the AUO screen btw)

UPS guy didn't leave my 1210 at front office as instructed by sign on door. So, I called to have it removed from truck such that I would pick it up myself.
This morning, after 1.5hrs at UPS depot, I was told it was on the truck.
Two hours later, I meet with truck. It's not on truck. UPS says they don't know where the location of the package.

When I finally get the package, all I can hope is that Dell didn't somehow screw up too.....

I just had to vent.

Everyone check your m1210 and see if there is a line of faded paints between the hinges of the LCD when closing? If everyone has it then we have to all report to Dell so they do something about it.

It's here! I cleaned up the Windows installation as well as I could, resized the partition to 25 gig, and am installing Gentoo on it as we speak. It seems to be pretty Linux friendly, based on how well the Ubuntu livecd is running. Gotta say, this Core 2 Duo is no slouch when it comes to compiling, even using only one core.

I love getting new toys.

UPS has restored my faith in them and then some...I finally have my m1210.

Last night at 9:30pm, a UPS guy knocked on my door to deliver my laptop. It had somehow ended up on his truck, the wrong truck. He was done with work. I am not on his route. He went out of his way to bring it to me. Did I mention it was 9:30pm. And of course, he had to climb 5 flights of stairs to get to my apt. That UPS guy is "the man".

My initial reaction: too much crapware, solid build, beautiful screen, fast. Sometime this weekend, I'll post a new thread in the reviews w/some pics, comments, and benchmarks.

Wow, I would have totally hugged him...that is awsome

I'm not sure if they'll work or not. I'm not too worried about it though. If I can get them to work, that's great. If not, I don't really have a lot of use for them anyway, and they'll end up working sooner or later.

By the way, does anyone else's webcam look absolutely horrible? I played with it briefly in Windows, and it looked so bad that I wonder if it's broken.
