I'm getting obsessive with checking my order status. Look what Dell have done to me!
Alright... so after a few talks with Dell reps, and 2 cancellations... I think I have my M1210 on order, and "in boxing":

Dell XPS M1210
Intel Duo Core T2400 (1.83 GHz)
1 GB RAM
80 GB HD, 5400 RPM (Didn't want 7200 RPM for heat reaons... can always upgrade at Newegg.com)
Nvidia 7400 Mobile Go Video
DVD Dual Layer Burner 8X
12.1 Inch WXGA with True Life
Built in Camera (with headphones)
9 Cell Battery
6 Cell Battery (Additional)
Creative Audigy Built in Sound
Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Module (2.0+EDR)
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/g Mini Card
4 Year Limited Warranty, with Nights and Week ends, 24x7 Technical Support

Product Sub Total : $1,191.68
*Sales Tax: $88.19
Shipping and/or Handling: $0.00
Total Order Amount: $1,279.87

$70 Promotional Gift Card arrives in 6-8 weeks.

Thus...New Total: $1,209.87

Now here is the funny part... Dell had to cancel my first order because I needed to change my harddrive configuration, so the Rep cancelled it, and supposedly "forgot" to include the $50 MIR. I called today to ask about it, and the Dell Rep was nice enough to give me FREE overnight shipping, and a $100 dollar coupon (good for a $100 off a $100 or more order at Dell). Now I just need to get that $50 MIR....

New "Theoretical" Total: < $1,110

I don't really see the point of ordering an XPS 1210 if your not adding a Nvidia 7400 Go Chip in it.. its kinda a waste of money for a 12 inch integrated grsphics laptop

I think adding more money towards the video versus jumping up from 1.66 to 1.83 would be a lot better. Even though if your not playing many games..

It's a nicer, stylish laptop.

Personally, I hate the case on the E1505 etc. with the white trim. It looks cheap. If it wasn't just that i.e. cheap, I wouldn't have ordered it for myself. I even considered springing for an Asus or Sager just cause I hate the look of the Dell regular Inspiron series so much.

Originally, she was looking at the 710m cause she wants something small and portable (she's like 5'1") but this comes with so much more e.g. core duo.

No games at all. Just schoolwork and photoshop.

In the end, she's happy and that's all that matters. Similarly-sized laptops sell for much more with the same config so I don't think she could do much better.

We were even looking at a 13.3" Macbook but it came up to over $1500 with less specs and a warranty that wasn't even comparable.

So while you might think it's a waste of money, I don't and she doesn't either.

First, there is no real heat or battery difference these days between 5400rpm and 7200rpm drives, as far as I'm aware and have read.

Second, the fact that your new order is in boxing already makes me maaaaaaaaaaad!

Mine's still in the dreaded "production" phase.

I am homicidally jealous. I need anything better than the 1.66 Ghz core duo, A/V pack, 7400, 1 gig ram, DVD-burner, and 100 gigs HD 5400 to be less than or basically around $1,500 (w/tax & shipping) and i would jump on it.

buying it right off the site without any incentive coupons puts it over $1,700.
i need a new notebook before summer ends and if there are no good coupons by july im moving onto other laptops.

Mine is STILL pre-production, and I ordered it the day it came out. Why in the world is that?

- 2 GHZ
- 1GB RAM
- 256MB Nvidia GG
- 100GB 5400 RPM HD
- 8X DVD+/-RW
- Communications package (WWAN antenna + webcam)
- Bluetooth
- x2 9 cell batteries

Is there anything in this list that might be holding it up?

Whoa... how did you get it to be so cheap? When I try making this exact config online, it always come out to about $2136. That's like double what you're paying! EDIT: Okay, read back a few pages, saw you got a really good coupon to help out with the price. Man, I'm envious... Is this a coupon for people in college or something? If so, that's too bad; I just graduated with my MA, recently.

Jumbie..

cool cool I hear ya, I think the E1505 are made very cheap.. they seem like cheap plastic, that is why I chose the XPS 1210

BTW, if she is using photoshop, the nvidia video is a better performer than integrated video..

video cards don't mean much when it comes to photoshop only 3d rendering software.

ZOMG! My laptop has moved! Sort...of!

There's now a check mark (a tick, for us Brits) next to the "kitting" section of "in production."

Zomg!

Question: Has anyone's actually been "shipped" yet?

Well good news and bad news...

Good news : I cancelled my first XPS 1210 order, in change for the exact same specs I had, but my sales rep boosted to 2 Gb DDR Memory for free :-) I complained because a few days later the offered a free upgrade to 2 GB DDR from 1 GB DDR. So I get all the deals I got with my first order ($200 in discounts, free Nvidia upgrade) plus free 2 GB DDR memory.

Bad news: There is a HUGE demand for this laptop, I talked to customer care, and there is defnitely a 15 day back order period for the XPS 1210. People will not be getting there machine till the end if June or early July at best. This new laptop I ordered has a July 6th delivery date. Let the waiting game begin...

Well if mine is in testing, so it's clearly physically available, and I should have mine fairly soon. Others are in boxing already, and are WELL on the way to shipping.
